We don’t have required military or public service in this country so yes the onus is on the people who enlist to understand that that is what it means.

And you can’t claim the military are the best of us and their ‘sacrifice’ and not be willing to make sacrifice. But if you are a person who goes into what is ostensibly a public service you are taking on an added burden and an added responsibility.
