Favourite Australian thing to do: Take holidays. This sounds flippant, but I really appreciate how Australians value personal time.

My next work: "Yet She Lives" is out early 2026!

If you’ve visited Brisbane, what’s your favourite thing to do: Spending a few hours at the GOMA – it’s such a great art gallery – and then visiting local bookshops like Avid Reader and Pulp Fiction to make sure my TBR pile is always teetering.

Typically Australian that sneaks into your work: Sometimes, Australian dry humour slips into my work – but most of my work (fiction and non-fiction) is either set in fantastical worlds or Viking Age Scandinavia so… not very Aussie.

Your work: Dark fantasy and horror, usually with isolated people struggling to survive thanks to social inequity, harsh landscapes, wild weather, weird magic, strange creatures and general creepiness. I also write about Viking women and their fascinating lives, along with Norse sagas and myths.

I'm rooting hard for @brisbanein28.bsky.social , because I want to combine Worldcon with a chance to view the total solar eclipse in Sydney the week before. If I can spare the vacation time, I'd also like to stop off for a tour of New Zealand that we missed out on in 2020.

18.02.2026 00:17 β€” πŸ‘ 9    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

we spent years setting up WorldCon 2020 then had to pivot to digital in a couple of months due to covid. It's still something that hurts a little – I'd really appreciate any support in bringing it back to the South Pacific so folks like me can actually attend in person, for once.

Bonus! ✨️THERE WILL BE A TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE NEARBY WITHIN A WEEK OF THE CON.✨️ I'm going to be there anyway, let's have a WorldCon at the same time

I was at Melbourne WorldCon in 2010 and that was the last WorldCon I attended. I was booked for Wellington in 2020 but fucking Covid. Please vote for Brisbane in '28!

If you're in a position to vote on this, do the South Pacific a solid and vote for Brisbane.

The last time Worldcon was scheduled down here it was 2020 in Wellington and it didn't happen in person. Will have been 18 years by 2028 since we got an accessible in-person con. Put the World in Worldcon.

As an Australian author, I was absolutely devastated when ConZealand was cancelled. I’m lucky enough to have gone to WorldCon in Melbourne and in San Jose, but I would LOVE to go to Brisbane in 2028!!

Please!!
