“Late last night, House Republicans introduced new language to the Budget Reconciliation bill that will immiserate the
lives of millions of Americans by cutting their access to Medicaid, and making life much more difficult for millions more by
making them pay higher fees when they seek medical care. While a lot of attention will be justifiably given to these cuts, the bill has also crammed in new language that
attempts to entirely stop states from enacting any regulation against artificial intelligence.”

While a lot of attention will be justifiably given to these cuts, the bill has also crammed in new language that attempts to entirely stop states from enacting any regulation against artificial intelligence.”

“ “...no State or political subdivision thereof may enforce any law or regulation regulating artificial intelligence models, artificial intelligence systems, or automated decision systems during the 10 year period beginning on the date of the enactment of this Act," says the text of the bill introduced Sunday night by Congressman Brett Guthrie of Kentucky, Chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. The text of the bill will be considered by the House at the budget reconciliation markup on May 13.”

“That language of the bill, how it goes on to define Al and other "automated systems," and what it considers "regulation," is broad enough to cover relatively new generative Al tools and technology that has existed for much longer. In theory, that language will make it impossible to enforce many existing and proposed state laws that aim to protect people from and inform them about Al systems.”

Get your action hats on!
Tomorrow, the US House considers the text of a new budget reconciliation bill introduced by Kentucky Congressman Brett Guthrie.

The bill contains harmful cuts to Medicaid. It also contains a provision that would prevent states from regulating AI at all…
FOR 10 YEARS.

Exactly! I just want to know why they wouldn’t do this before the strike even started. With or without the Union, I just wanna know 🥺

This is a really good question! I can’t speak to why they haven’t. They have invested in the tech heavily. So we just want a commitment in writing that says “We won’t misuse it! We will ask permission”. This is something that’s been asked before. And we just want transparency as to why or why not?

THIS! They have been getting WEIRD during the strike! LOLOL I should not see an announcement and immediately go “….huh?”

Oooooh name calling is actually really nasty and also counterproductive to any discussion. Especially when you are sorely incorrect

I think supporting what the Union is trying to do with these negotiations is a major step in the fight against AI. And you don’t have to be a member to support that.

I personally believe for myself, if at the end of the day I don’t get involved and at least TRY, I am just as guilty as the corporations I’m striking against. I can’t sit here and complain about the state of the industry & the jobs that are being lost due to corporate greed.

No organization is perfect. I have my criticisms of the union as someone who does on camera & VO. I think there are things we should also be striking for & I feel like the last strikes outcome wasn’t in favor of the middle-man every day actor. We need support to remote members.

SAG-AFTRA is only as strong as its members. It’s a non prof org that provides legal protection for its members, continually collaborates on contracts that reflect the financial state of the world that also keep members safe within the ever changing industry.

But it’s another investment into your career if you choose to join. Just like you buying that microphone that’s 1k and that studiobricks booth because you are bougie (calling myself out cuz I’m guilty)😮‍💨

1) it’s a tax write off. 2) there’s a payment plan. & 3)? We’ve all invested in SOMETHING. Do I wish the fee was smaller? HELL YEAH! 😩 & I hope with time it changes, along with moving the goalpost on TH’s & joining.

This is what leads to many making the personal decision on becoming a union member. Which happens once you pay your initiation fee after the proposed amount of time. And I know yall are gonna scream and shout about how the initiation fee isn’t fair.

Taft Harley’s exist. And many other more eloquent actors have spoken in length about that process but it still rings true. Every production has the ability to Taft Hartley any NU performer. It’s one sheet of paper. 2 seconds of time.

The problem is the regurgitated blips that are going around, that NU actors working on your fave games that are NU will be ultimately fired if they don’t go Union. No besties.

14.03.2025 19:34 — 👍 40    🔁 6    💬 1    📌 0

“NU actors will all be fired!” Respectfully, HUH?! I don’t know where this got picked up from but it’s not true. Every actor starts out NU and the typical career growth is either becoming a Union actor or Ficore. Every production is capable of hiring every swathe of talent.

Studios truly are the middle man. And a lot of decision making comes down to what the client says. Clients ultimately are who give the OK on recasts and whether or not they will follow industry standards. Many times they even have a hand in casting.

“But some studios said they have AI clauses!” And that’s great! It feels so good knowing studios are doing this and supporting us in this fight! But at the end of the day what happens if the CLIENT violates the studios or talents trust? OR if some big merger/acquisition happens?

“All these VA’s not going in is stupid, just replace them with AI already!” Yeah okay well your little shoot em up and gacha games are gonna suck bro. You’re already complaining they nerfed your fave character and how everything is pay to play.

Striking AI is the only way to preserve human creativity, human talent. ART. We have to nip this in the bud in all sides. But at least we are getting somewhere now.

14.03.2025 19:34 — 👍 64    🔁 10    💬 1    📌 0

You’ll see that they want/will find any way to not have to be transparent, give consent at the very least, along with compensation. AI is already here. We can’t get rid of it so we HAVE to regulate it. This is going to affect engineers, game devs, everyone that works in games.

I implore you all to look at the proposal that was shared from SAG-AFTRA. It is reassuring & terrifying at. On one hand I am reaffirmed in my fight on why I’m striking and why this is so important. These billion dollar industries DO NOT CARE about the welfare of actors.

We are striking for enforceable AI protections. Key word: “enforceable”, meaning if a billion dollar company wants to make a digital copy of my voice or use a snippet of me for other projects til kingdom come, I will have industry regulations backing me.

What’s harmful to the strike efforts is the public/fandoms believing random Reddit threads where fans keep sharing incorrect facts on the current situation. Along with believing YouTube videos that aren’t based on any factual evidence. Rather than believing actual working actors.

This is something ALL of us actors who are striking dread. But it’s something that we know could happen at anytime whenever we say “no” to recording for any reason.
