Does anyone else think international football needs an “associates” level below the top one where countries like San Marino and the Faroes can play each other and they have their own tournaments where the winners get WC/Euros qualification rather than being beaten up on by bigger European countries?

Orrrr, and hear me out…the clubs that scout him see the talent but have doubts and hedge their bets somewhat by signing other options.

It’s 100% the point. I’m sure there are innocent well meaning people who put flags up as part of this who think they’re just being patriotic bc they believe the stuff they’ve been told. But the people BEHIND the campaign are trying to make people feel scared.

I can only speak for myself, but I never have an issue when I see a flag during sporting events. So I’d suspect if I saw a flag outside your home it wouldn’t bother me. I’m proud of my country, and I’m always quick to thank those who have served this country (thank you to you and your family).

It’s basically an attempt to make it look like this which is what I described feeling like when I drove into the town I will soon be living in.

The amount of flak he’s copped for this is unreal and people saying he’s taken the flag down, he’s unpatriotic miss the point. I’ve *never* felt this way about the flag when it’s flown during WCs or Euros. It feels different now.

It’s because it’s good business for them and we’re in a good place right now so they have to find something to try and stir up controversy and clicks. The thing is, it’s kinda hard to sow division in a club that’s top of the table having played at Anfield, SJP and home to City.

The growing divide is *between* the fanbase and the narrative that surrounds his goalscoring form from *outside* the club.

You’re gonna get someone say “but you said Donnarumma was the best GK in the world” and I’m gonna put this here: I think you’re stating your subjective opinion that Alisson is better (which I agree with), but Donnarumma won the Yashin award, so the football community considers him the best.

I don’t think he’s the best GK in the world and I think the fact Zubi started in Spain’s last match with Rodri on the bench makes that a debate too.

But I suspect you’re basing this on the Ballon d’Or and Yashin trophy rather than your subjective opinion.

Which would’ve been wrong, bc every person I spoke to in town was lovely. My girlfriend, who is white, her family, her neighbours, who are all white, have been very kind. The vast majority of white people in this country don’t stand for hate or bigotry. The thugs are the minority. Remind them of it.

I’m moving to Hertfordshire to be closer to my other half and driving to the town I’m moving to, I saw a long road with flags down it. And for the first time in my 4 decades living in this country, I felt scared and unwelcome. I almost didn’t do my viewings.

Was always going to be a crazy appointment with those two and that’s why I’m so happy it happened. The fireworks are going to be epic.
