My friend @harshawalia.bsky.social was arrested and charged, and another protester was brutalized today in Vancouver at a protest targeting Apple for profiting from death and exploitation in its supply chain. The protesters also called out Apple's support of Friends of the IDF.

It’s amazing to me that pple who are not in any kind of relationship with Indigenous folks want to defend their gatherings to support genocide. How are you going to be a settler, contributing nothing, and saying you somehow are the authority of what is considered appropriate? Y’all get 0 respect

Very important thread of what we need to keep in mind about ‘thanksgiving’⬇️

What you do for this like Thanksgiving or July 4th matters most because most people celebrating don’t do any of these actions.

You cannot claim to be here to end genocide anywhere if you are the one uplifting genocide on the stolen land you are on.

• Be in direct relationship with Indigenous people.

• Create a plan to desettle to where you came from. If you’re from a place that’s also ravaged by empire then skip to the next step.

• Do everything to end the source of genocide - Empire.

• Learn about the land you’re on, the story of its theft, and the people massacred often by your ancestors on this land.

• Learn about all the ways you benefit from genocide every single day.

• Move money and other resources directly to Indigenous people.

• Offer free labor and services to Indigenous people. Be in service to Indigenous people, show up in the ways asked of you.

But I can share basics of support that works for any marginalized groups. If you’re celebrating genocide ‘Thanksgiving’ or not I will not talk to you if you are not doing the following.

I can’t speak for any other group - nor do I attempt to. I am not the one to define what repair looks like for settlers on stolen land in what’s known as the ‘US’.

I hope everyone takes time to really reflect on what celebrating genocide means, the excuses we make up, and what it’ll take for us to actually do better.

So, if you’re in my life and you’re celebrating, you most likely already know I will not be talking to you for a minute. I make it clear to everyone, if you post things that celebrate genocide I will unfollow you.

I believe every single human makes mistakes, can be accountable, and grow. I am non-attached to this process, you will get there when you’re meant to. In the meantime, my work continues and no one gets to take me away from that.

CI think about strategy first and foremost, part of that strategy is I refuse to give problematic behavior my energy when I need my energy for the work.

Depending on the type of relationship, I usually will not talk to anyone celebrating (idc if it’s a friendsgiving) for the week before and after. Some relationships it’ll be just a few days, some months. Some we will never talk again, until they truly understand AND it’s strategic to do so.

And you do not owe your energy and time to anyone celebrating it who might be a family member, friend, coworker, whoever. That is not punishment, that is moving with clarity, intention, and strategy.

It is also our responsibility to heal and move in the most strategic ways.

In regards to folks celebrating the genocidal holiday later this week. You do not owe anyone your presence in a celebration of genocide.

We are each on our individual journeys, and with grace, accountability, and growth we move towards ourselves, the land, spirit, and all living things. However, that does not mean that everyone has access to us in the exact same ways indefinitely.

Growth is not pretending we will never cause harm.

Growth is to have a foundation that makes it difficult for us to make the same mistakes again.

To be human is to make mistakes, be accountable, and grow throughout our life.

Grace is not to pretend as if someone is not doing something wrong.

Grace is recognizing that any of us can make mistakes and even cause harm.

Accountability is not punishment or harassment.

Accountability is a way to fortify relationships and access deeper levels of our humanity.

I am so grateful for the grace and love Indigenous folks here have given me. I would not extend the same to settlers in Falasteen.
If we were in Falasteen and you told me:
“It’s a Friendsgiving”
“It’s the only day we can gather”
“We get it”
I would at the very least set your stolen house on fire.

This work cannot happen on stolen land without deep relationships with the people of this land.

Remember, there is no good settler on stolen land - so we build a better world.

Thanksgiving is a celebration of the world white supremacy has built, but the work does not begin or end with a single day.

We are all accountable. It is our responsibility to build a liberated world.

The truth is, everyday we commit to fascism. It’s in the jobs we have, the transportation we take, the money we spend, how we raise our kids - everything is an investment in systems of oppression unless we’re investing to build a liberated world. We are all accountable for this world.
