The public and commentators need to stop thinking about "wars for oil" as about securing oil for the U.S., it's been decades since that was a motivator. "Wars for oil" are instead about securing oil for oil companies, securing a fossil fueled global economy, and denying oil's wealth to "enemies."

Iran Thoughts I woke up this morning and my wife informed me that we were at war with Iran, and my response was β€œwhy?” That’s a bad sign.

"A decadent people elected a bunch of decadent congressmen and congresswomen and then layered a decadent, corrupt, and unserious game show host on top of all that, and now we reap the whirlwind."

In Norway, wealth funds are confronting climate risks and dropping companies that don't manage them well.

In the US, financial giants like Blackrock and Vanguard are capitulating to RAGA intimidation to stay silent on climate risks.

The entire Democratic strategy debate β€” "moderate" or move left? fight or compromise? β€” is based on a misreading of data. Voters don't think Dems are too progressive; they think Dems are weak. The actual math on what to do about this isn't even close!

Birds Aren’t Just Declining. They’re Declining Faster, a New Study Finds.

The number of birds in the US and Canada has fallen by 2.9 billion, or 29 percent, since 1970.

Forest-dwelling birds are doing OK. The big losses correlated with hot places: Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Arizona.

**Alt text:** A two-panel comparison graphic. The top panel is titled "Tobacco companies trying to mislead the public" and shows a scanned excerpt from an internal tobacco industry document stating "Doubt is our product since it is the best means of competing with the 'body of fact' that exists in the mind of the general public" β€” a strategy of manufacturing public controversy despite internal acknowledgment that cigarettes are harmful. The bottom panel is titled "Climate Working Group emails" and shows a text excerpt stating "About all I can hope is that what we write will provide sufficient 'reasonable scientific doubt' regarding the science claims in the 2009 TSD, based upon almost 2 decades of new science, to call into question the original reasoning for the EPA Administrator's decision that CO2 presents a threat to human health and welfare." The juxtaposition draws a parallel between tobacco industry disinformation tactics and the climate denial strategy reflected in the DOE Climate Working Group communications.

We're heading for a world where the Supreme Court decrees fossil fuels can't be regulated, but they can't be sued either. That would leave you paying every cent of the tab for climate damages

RFK Jr., once poisoned by mercury, is silent as EPA weakens rules against it The HHS secretary has fought mercury pollution for years. He’s now in an administration that wants to make it easier for industries to dump it into the air

RFK Jr spent years denouncing mercury pollution from power plants. He was one of Trump's most public opponents when he tried to roll back mercury limits in 2017. He himself actually got mercury poisoning (eating too much fish). On Friday, Trump's EPA weakened mercury rules. RFK Jr said nothing.
