I like the one on the left. There feels like more of a pause with the sentences at the end. It reminds me of that quiet that happens between wave. This quietness can turn the seeming futility of the motions into a time-expanding pause.

I am the penny
slipped from the pocket
ground into a gritty floor.

Jesus, I need to see
the broom in your hands,
your belly pressed against

into my darkness.

So powerful. While I can’t fully understand, this is a common experience and comfort I’ve heard from trans folks: God knowing their name written in the book of life from before the beginning.

Some of the leading voices in civil rights movements have been poets. I think of Lucille Clifton and Claude McKay. Poetry is literally what we need from creatives like you to keep going right now.

The loudest voices get the biggest crowds. But their words aren’t what we need most.

What we need is to listen for the whispers in the storm.

This is truly a discipline because it’s an upstream swim against the media current.

Note: I need to issue two corrections on the above:

1) Elijah’s last name is McClain, not McLain.

2) Elijah McClain was not diagnosed. Rather, autistic Black people & their families have said they identify with him.

I regret these errors.

Could be! Neurodivergence in minority communities can tend to be overlooked in vital ways. (e.g. Elijah McLain was autistic)

Theory: ADD/ADHD can also be sensationalized in majority culture communities (similar to popular/“nominal” uses of the enneagram that lack deep knowledge and application)

I have found Huberman Labs podcast to be helpful as an initial literary review. I was recently made aware of Dr. Daniel Amen who has knowledge on the neurobiological experience and effective ways to diagnose and treat/manage ADD.

Hi! 👋🏻 I was hesitant to join a new platform because:

(1) I already can’t keep up with what I have
(2) I don’t like the idea of choosing to avoid diverging ideas and only hear like-minded people.

But with the direction of popular platforms, I decided to get an account here.
