Nigel Farage is the biggest charlatan in British political history.
And here's what his constitutents in Clacton really think:
Yesterday they gave ยฃ3bn to Thames Water.
Today they have to take ยฃ5bn off Disabled people.
It should be the other way around.
I see your point!
13.03.2025 21:15 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Thatcher wouldnโt have dared make the changes he did, but he realised the voting public wouldnโt know or care about the devil in the detail.
It made it much easier for the next lot of Tories to continue the work, introducing even more privatisation through the back door.
Never trust a neoliberal.
Quite, which is precisely why I like the word optics so much. To me it says something very specific which is unrelated to whether a policy is a good idea or not!
13.03.2025 21:08 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Oh no, I do - he drove waiting lists down, built infrastructure and improved efficiency.
Unfortunately, he did it by saddling the NHS with PFI debts, and wrote into the legislation loopholes that allowed parts of the services to be sold off or contracted out for private profit.
Very clever work.
To be fair, Blair started the ball rolling with dismantling it, and Streeting and Starmer show no signs of slowing the demolition, so they wouldnโt be entirely wrong.
Itโs amazing they havenโt considered the optics, though!
Good point!

09.03.2025 15:23 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Yes, itโs a toss up between the impact of poverty and that of an unmitigated airborne pandemic.
As far as child mortality goes, poverty probably wins. The number of children in the UK dying where being homeless directly contributed to their death is a similar number to child Covid deaths.
Pandemics change people. We arenโt used to dealing with the mass death, disability & uncertainty that comes with them
Unfortunately due to technology & misinformation, society is choosing NOT to process its collective trauma
It IS changing us. Not for the better. Weโre detached, colder & apathetic
"Measles is a highly contagious, serious airborne disease caused by a virus that can lead to severe complications and death."
First, trying to contain measles without using the word airborne makes as much sense as trying to control SARS by saying it's not airborne.
Second, WHO can say airborne.
โmeasles doesnโt kill anyone, touch grass, parent better, no masks ever!โ
This was a response to my masks in healthcare article. Someone took the time to email me just to spread harmful lies.
We need masks in healthcare.

I was used to it anyway because I wore one when I was a road cyclist in London.

One individual may not represent the hospital, and it sounds like he wasnโt following their policies, for a start. Iโd wait and see how they respond to the complaint first.
12.02.2025 12:36 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Yes, all part of a massive attitude problem, by the sound of things.
I agree, though, that not masking even though they knew it increased the risk to your life is the most serious offence here. The rest just shows up what kind of person they are.
Good luck with it. I hope itโs taken seriously.
Refusing to tell you their name is also a massive red flag, come to think of it!
Imagine thinking you have the right to watch someoneโs intimate examination and not even tell them your name!
Weird, I know, but having worked in my FFP3 among perfectly nice, caring Drs & nurses for the past four years who are completely blind to the need to mask, I think the not leaving might ring an alarm bell with the management that the not masking might not. Hope that makes sense!
09.02.2025 00:36 โ ๐ 64 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Iโm so angry for you!
Obviously the fact they wouldnโt mask when it could literally save your life says it all to me. In terms of your complaint, though, if you treat the refusal to leave as an independent incident, you may find that โnormalโ non-masking people take the complaint more seriously.
As a GP, Iโd take the refusal to leave the room at your request during an examination EXTREMELY seriously, too. Patients have to consent to having anyone present who is not an essential part of the examination, & you very clearly did not want them there & asked them to leave. Deeply disrespectful.
