is there a tech aggregator that, unlike lobsters, doesn't pretend that tech functions in vacuum, with no human facet to it?

This is going to have a devastating impact on so many workers. And it’s not even clearly safe. We are part of this big experiment in private driverless mobility/environmental disaster. 😞
Probably last point. Fuck the leadership at Bluesky. Fuck the folks who keep putting technology over people (this is *literally* the reason why this shit keeps happening).
06.10.2025 18:18 — 👍 29 🔁 6 💬 1 📌 0freedom from and freedom to, or positive and negative liberties, are a useful way to break out of the positive feedback loop that results in only protecting the powerful. but really the platforming of an abstract ideal of freedom above all else should be questioned before it gets to that point
06.10.2025 18:25 — 👍 4 🔁 1 💬 0 📌 0starting off by identifying the things to work against is pretty important because it turns out not everyone agrees on those and technology doesn't free you abstractly it accomplishes specific political goals. it's not even just about trading off conceptions of freedom it may not free you at all

I reactivated just to say this: folks who can't understand the importance of safety (especially when it comes to Black people on the Internet) and wants to focus on bits and bytes over bodies is a fucking opp.
I'm by SRQ if you wanna do this shit in person.

Suggested by my friend Doodleydoodah on insta✨ Drawn and painted 10/03/25 with ballpoint pen and watercolors. If I was drawing Wingull from memory, then I would’ve given it legs. So when I looked up the official art and saw that it didn’t have any. I could only imagine that it walks like flailing around like one of those inflatable tube men you often see in front of some stores on the curbside. I was really tempted to draw the shiny version, because I really liked the idea of making the stripes a mid to deep green, but the reason why I chose the original in the end was partially just because I wanted to capture what the old gba and ds game colors felt like to me and the blue was a nice color, too.
Wingull Just gliding by in the sky. (7/8)
I’m gonna pretend they just hide their knees. I need to see what a walking Wingull looks like.

or to rephrase: it's a necessary trade-off, like all policy discussions, which is being portrayed as black-and-white. i don't believe most citizens of the EU agree that the privacy of their most intimate thoughts are worth trading off for law enforcement.
06.10.2025 15:04 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0i don't think it's libertarianism to believe the government should not have absolute power over its citizens. i think libertarianism arises from never wanting the government to have any power to regulate trade or violence. a convincing argument has yet to be made that encryption limits enforcement.
06.10.2025 15:02 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0the tech implements a policy, much like the laws of a government. it is very akin to a universal declaration of human rights. the term "trust" is incredibly loaded. i trust the government to execute tax policies fairly. i don't trust them to make use of powers no one should have.
06.10.2025 14:58 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0it's important to remember that the people making out that bad words about AI are *racism* are overwhelmingly eugenicists and race scientists
this is the right-wing trick of trying to coopt non-right-wing terms as a gotcha
e.g. hailey is a rationalist and they're race science all the way down
We really need to retire "contrarian" as a descriptor for Weiss immediately.
The reason she is getting this job right now is because of her *non-contrarian* sensibilities.
She espouses views that the US's current power structure likes.
technologists when their solution is too expensive: i think the governments should do it =)
