06.12.2025 06:57 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0If you want to improve productivity then you certainly don't want to arbitrarily kill or maim people on roads. Its a huge cost to society. 20mph/30kmh hardly impacts journey times in real world traffic and makes urban/village roads far more attractive for healthy walking and cycling.
04.12.2025 08:28 โ ๐ 10 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0If 20's Plenty had an advent calendar then it would only need just one day in it, the 20th. You might say "well what's the fun in that" but 20's Plenty as an urban/village default is an initiative brings gifts to the whole community all the year road. #20splenty
03.12.2025 06:38 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0We have had a huge response to our 4th "Delivering 20" webinar. Hear from transport professionals on how 20mph limits are being used to make transformational changes in communities. The national 30mph is no longer credible with so many saying 20's Plenty for the 2020s us06web.zoom.us/webinar/regi...
01.12.2025 07:47 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 1Ambulances are a good thing aren't they? Saving lives, etc. But they are very expensive. So why waste them on the 15,000 casualties on England's 30mph roads which could be avoided if UK Gov followed Wales/ Scotland by setting 20mph as an urban/village norm.www.20splenty.org/gb2024stats
29.11.2025 10:04 โ ๐ 25 ๐ 10 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 1Please, donโt think of speed as one of the "suspects" to be ticked off or otherwise in a collision investigation. Speed is always implicated in the turning of a hazard, into an incident, into a collision and into a casualty. It is never an "innocent bystander". It's why #20splenty where people are
29.11.2025 09:26 โ ๐ 12 ๐ 4 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0One of the benefits of a default urban/village 20mph limit is that it unlocks initiatives which would not be possible in higher speed 30mph streets. Wales is planning that local authorities can install simple and cheaper pedestrian crossings at side roads to align with Highway Code.
27.11.2025 14:02 โ ๐ 23 ๐ 6 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 2In 2020 UK endorsed the Stockholm Declaration call for default urban/village 20mph. Welsh and Scottish Govs have set 20mph as national urban/village norm whilst UK Gov has done nothing for England and Northern Ireland.
Not a "crying shame", more a "dying shame" www.20splenty.org/gb2024stats
And as it's budget day, don't forget that drivers in England could get an extra ยฃ2bn a year saving in insurance premiums by adopting 20mph as an urban village norm. They are getting it in Wales and Scotland, why not in England also. And a 15,000 pa reduction in casualties also.

Its good to see that Transport Scotland are recognising the benefits of lower speed limits on trunk roads where they go through communities. #20splenty to support community life and liveability.
25.11.2025 16:26 โ ๐ 8 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Transport for the North report on Attitudes to Road Safety and Speed Management finds 58% in favour of a national urban/village 20mph limit with only 28% opposing. 25.11.2025 06:33 โ ๐ 7 ๐ 4 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Most 20mph roads are now set as limits without physical calming. However "zones" only require a single physical calming device, so many legacy small zones are being expanded without further physical calming on additional roads. Its further confused by media not knowing the subtle differences.
24.11.2025 09:29 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The UK map of 20mph adoption is rapidly changing as Scotland sets 20mph as a norm and additional shire counties in England say 20's Plenty where people are.

Good to see nearly 100 roads in Oldham getting a Safe System upgrade by being changed to 20mph.
24.11.2025 08:32 โ ๐ 22 ๐ 3 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Agreed. I would far prefer m/sec. So much better at describing speed than mph or even km/h.
23.11.2025 15:39 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0England has the highest %age of urban/village roads in GB with unforgiving 30mph limits. When incidents happen the time/space to avoid them turning into crashes/casualties is minimised. England needs a Road Safety Strategy that facilitates and funds 20mph as an urban/village norm like Wales/Scotland
23.11.2025 11:34 โ ๐ 6 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 1I was delighted to be asked by the Liverpool City Region Transport Committee to present at their meeting on Thursday on how "20mph as a norm" is now recognised as a key component of a Safe System approach to Vision Zero. 23.11.2025 10:08 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Great to see Leicester is expanding its 20mph areas. UK councils are making progressive steps to introduce 20mph as a norm where people live, learn, play, work and shop. Another Town Council in Westmoreland & Furness supports #20splenty.
Almost every day, new 20mph schemes are announced around the UK. Sometimes whole counties and local authorities, sometimes towns or villages. It really is the decade where 20mph is becoming the urban/village norm.
It's good to see that Herefordshire council is looking to expand its 20mph speed limits throughout the community in Hereford.
20.11.2025 09:29 โ ๐ 21 ๐ 3 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0There is plenty of evidence that when set across wide areas and inclusive of faster roads then speeds and casualties reduce. See www.20splenty.org/big_speed_re...

19.11.2025 07:25 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0It's good to see Aberdeen rolling out its 20mph limits across the city. Another Scottish City saying the #20splenty where people are.
17.11.2025 16:11 โ ๐ 9 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Its not only road user's actions, it's also the actions of those managing the roads and keeping speed limits which limit the ability of road users to avoid collisions when "incidents" happen. That's why responsible politicians and officers are setting 20mph for most urban/village roads.
17.11.2025 08:56 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0On today's World Day of Remembrance for Road Victims it is worth noting that in the two years since Wales implemented a national default 20mph (32km/h) there have been 25% fewer casualties on such roads with over 1,000 fewer people killed or injured. youtu.be/efr3uVKpOwY
16.11.2025 08:01 โ ๐ 157 ๐ 51 ๐ฌ 4 ๐ 4Does your council give preferential treatment to children being driven to school by providing a 20mph limit "just outside schools" so leaving those walking or cycling the whole way from home to school in a 30mph street environment where any mistake may cause death or injury?
15.11.2025 09:52 โ ๐ 6 ๐ 4 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Its great to see that "shire counties" across the UK are setting 20mph as a norm for their towns and villages.
24 more communities to get 20mph limits in Westmoreland and Furness. A real improvement for residents and visitors.
At any time more children are NOT "in front of schools" than "in front of schools". And 4 times more were killed/injured whilst NOT "travelling to/from school" than "travelling to/from school".
"20mph just in front of schools" is a dying strategy that has no credibility. bit.ly/4o4jwdA
