This kind of legal support commitment is essential!

Also important: it must be paired with physical security preparation, education, and support.

The children are always ours, every single one of them, all over the globe; and I am beginning to suspect that whoever is incapable of recognizing this may be incapable of morality.

"A man will say he's aΒ feminist but he doesn't wipe the counters": Lyz Lenz on the beauty of divorce In "This American Ex-Wife," Lenz celebrates the freedom β€” and free time β€” women get from ditching their husbands

Divorce is usually framed like a tragedy. The dirty secret: A lot of women find life on the other side is a beautiful thing.

I spoke with @lyzl about her new book celebrating divorce.

Great counterpoint to all the pressure on women to get married!

I'm part of this Facebook group for women and a member just shared that she was being abused. The way everyone united to support her and lift her up made my heart swell. Can y'all imagine how unstoppable we would be if women always stood in solidarity like that?

MeToo was never about court cases. The framework of MeToo created by Tarana Burke has always been about supporting survivors.

Just because 8.5x11s want to center perpetrators doesn’t erase what the actual work is about.

G contacted Southall Black Sisters’ (SBS) helpline seeking assistance as a victim-survivor of domestic abuse. As a migrant woman on a Spouse Visa with No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF), all the professionals G had sought help from were unsure about how to support G and her children due to her immigration status.

Even though G is from outside our catchment area, our helpline advocated on her behalf by liaising with Social Services. SBS’ Legal Services assisted G by applying for the Migrant Victims of Domestic Abuse Concession (MVDAC) which allowed G temporary recourse to public funds while she applied to regularise her immigration status. G is currently looking to move into safe accommodation along with her children.

For #16CaseStudiesFor16DaysOfActivism, we share G’s account of the complexities migrant victim-survivors face upon fleeing abuse and seeking help.

G’s account highlights the value of specialist, community-based β€˜by and for’ intervention in helping women lead lives free of violence.

#WomensHistoryMonth Did you know that #Oscar winner Halle Berry is disabled? She uses hearing aids and lost 80% of her hearing in her left ear due to domestic violence.

She made #WomensHistory as the first Black woman to win an Academy Award for Best Actress.
