You should check out the Telegraph. A classic of the head clutching genre. Made me want to put my head in my hands.

ME linked to your genetics – early study indicates Scientists said the findings offer the first robust evidence that genes contribute to a person’s chance of developing the disease.

There's a big feeling of relief for me too. I believed there was likely a genetic underpinning but to have the research show it took just makes everything feel more solid. I'm feeling very emotional.

Professor Chris Ponting, DecodeME lead investigator, University of Edinburgh
"This is a wakeup call. These extraordinary results speak the language of people with ME/CFS, often recounting people's ME/CFS symptoms. DecodeME is now calling on researchers worldwide to join us in accelerating ME/CFS research.
With our participants we have built an extraordinarily rich DecodeME data set, to which we continue to offer data access. We especially welcome researchers whose work is relevant to the eight signals we have identified, and who could bring their expertise to bear in highly targeted studies that would produce further ME/CFS insights and ultimately treatments."

I see The Telegraph went with the clichΓ©d hand stuck on head pose too...it does suck and this has been too long in coming but I do feel a sense of vindication today. I hope this might finally lead to some treatments.

I'm feeling so emotional about this - like you I never dreamed there would be results that feel so definitive.

Chronic fatigue patients have different genes, study finds β€˜Groundbreaking’ research finds β€˜genetic signals’ for debilitating illness

I hope this will start a move towards treatment with further research building on the findings. Millions have had their lives devastated by this condition and faced the heartbreaking reality that currently there is nothing much that medicine can offer. I hope this is a sign things are changing. 2/2

I was one of the 20k + people with ME/CFS who took part in this study. I am so pleased the results validate what I think we all knew - this disease has a genetic component and is linked to issues with the immune and neurological systems. 1/2

I was one of the many thousands of people with ME/CFS who took part in this study, and it's fantastic to see the results published as a preprint today. For the first time we have evidence that ME/CFS is partly caused by genes related to the immune & nervous systems. 1/5

I quite like that all the delivery guys are familiar - means you know they care about doing the job well because you are going to see them again. And they are friendly. Did slightly surprise me the time I was walking near my house and one of them honked his horn and yelled a hello out the window.

Such a contrast to a lovely lady near my house. I was trying to plan some new planting for my street and stopped to look at her space - she invited me in, talked me through various things that worked well for her and invited me back to get some cuttings in the Autumn. I guess I was lucky.

Presumably if you reuse the plastic bags rather than getting a hemp bag thereby avoiding more plastic bags and avoiding the charge that would be beneficial?

Tools to prevent road death and injury already exist.

The General Theory of Enshittification It isn’t a new phenomenon, but it seems to matter more

Good stuff: Paul Krugman's general theory of enshittification even includes a little dynamic programming model.

This is a great article Robert. Such an interesting reflection on the intergenerational nature of autism and shifting perception of what it has meant over time.

It's worth revisiting this Jim. Last night there were three separate petitions about the way Tower Hamlets are handling the leases of assets of community value. It would be interesting to know if there is some kind of bigger agenda behind this shift in position at the council.

THE GAP by Ira Glass I think it was in the time of spring 2012, when I came across David Shiyang Liu's lovely piece of work about Ira Glass. It was the most inspiring and motivating…

Reminded of this quote from Ira Glass about the taste gap people have when they start out making creative work. vimeo.com/85040589

@blindboyboatclub.bsky.social covered something similar about it feeling 'cringe' to start out making art or music.

But you just have to batter through it & make more!
