Stories set in the past are my obsession, and I've had three dark historical thrillers published. I also love writing Regency romances (I blame Georgette Heyer). Other interests - painting, poetry, and walking in the Derbyshire hills

13.11.2025 09:51 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Yesterday I took a break from writing my latest Regency adventure, and did a bit of painting in the Derbyshire countryside (watercolour)
11.11.2025 12:42 โ ๐ 18 ๐ 4 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I enjoy peeling away the masking fluid too, likewise the strips of masking tape I use to secure my watercolours while I'm painting. Love your other tricks - must try the bubble-wrap ๐จ

21.10.2025 15:38 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I'm giving a talk on Jane Austen this week, to a reading group. But I've now been warned that several members dislike her books, while some of them haven't read any. Should go well...

12.10.2025 17:46 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0It is a wonderful spot - and I had it all to myself! If it was in the nearby Lake District, it would be heaving with tourists.

(don't tell anyone ๐คซ)
I'm reading 'I Capture The Castle' by Dodie Smith, about a young woman's first encounter with love. Though written in 1949, it's still highly readable and often delightfully funny ๐ซ โค๏ธ

08.10.2025 09:13 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I adored her books! People talk a lot about the romps and raunchiness (which were fun) but she was also a great writer, with some heartbreaking scenes. Lovely lady too.
07.10.2025 09:04 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I'm revising a wonky first draft - and wondering how I managed to get some crucial scenes in the wrong order! ๐ Time for lots of cutting & pasting
