A big reason I love Tubi is because of the sheer variety and niche stuff it has, almost like you are going through those old Blockbusters but in digital form. It feels like everything that was once promised to us at the beginning of the streaming age. (2/2)

DVDs are the new vinyl records: Why Gen Z is embracing physical media As streaming continues to dominate the film and TV industry, many Gen Z movie watchers are opting out and choosing physical formats instead.

I think another factor at play here is that the amount of choices you have on streaming platforms these days is actually LOWER than back in the video rental days. (1/2)

Happy BTS Friday!!!

With these guys returning with a new album, I'm gonna go ahead and say it. Don't be surprised if you end up seeing them perform at next year's Superbowl Halftime Show.

The crappy and lackluster marketing campaigns for Pixar's recent original films has GOT to be deliberate!!!

There is just no other explanation in my mind.

Bringing things around, yes there are rare personal exceptions to the rule such as Birth of a Nation. But generally, people are allowed to enjoy the media they want without fear of negative judgement and the freedom to give opinions on them. Both these things can be true at the same time.

Also I think it's important to ask this question:

"If you feel the need to hide or put HEAVY amounts of disclaimers when expressing your love for something, what does that say about the people you hang with?" 6/7

Social media (especially these days), feels engineered to get people to become angry, bitter and ultimately tire them into submission. Get them to think everything is hopeless because all of their long posts and grand-standing doesn't seem to matter. But as a wise man once said.... 5/7

04.03.2026 17:01 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

In short, activism and social movements take work, planning and connecting with people within your local community. Posting a cathartic angry rant on social media can maybe feel good in the moment, but society has never changed over night because of one passionate post. 4/7

I think a bigger scope problem at play is not only the increasingly partisan nature of politics but how "outrage economics" and social media in general have distorted an entire generation's perception on how to bring about social change. 3/7

04.03.2026 17:01 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

We ALL like or enjoy media that either doesn't completely 100% align with our personal politics or contains elements that don't hold up too well or have "aged badly." Creating an environment of aggressive "purity testing" hinders honest conversations or self-expression. 2/7

04.03.2026 17:01 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Fundamentally it always felt wrong to go around telling people what they should or SHOULDN'T watch or read. Outright shaming and trying to make people feel bad for enjoying something is also ultimately counter-productive. That NEVER changes people's hearts or minds.

Is it weird that I actually find the first Scary Movie more entertaining than like....a majority of the Scream sequels?

I'm a big fan of the sequel:

I Now Pronounce You Ryuko and Mako

02.03.2026 02:18 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I don't want to be another reason why someone (especially guys) are afraid to open up. Yes its bullsh*t we live in a society that makes men afraid of being perceived as "girly" or "gay" but thats the reality and we have to navigate accordingly. I'm not claiming to be perfect in this regard. (7/7)

27.02.2026 16:13 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Just as aside, if you DON'T interpret Ryuko and Mako as romantic thats fine. In fact, I agree our media should make more of an effort to show close and intimate dynamics between guys and girls that ISN'T romantic. Which is why I try to be careful when I'm giving readings like this. (6/7)

"But the creators never confirmed it"

Well, yeah because shipping fandoms are profitable. Of course they wouldn't and lets also remember JP society is very stringent when it comes to LGBTQ stuff too. What you saw with Kill la Kill was more than likely the most they could have gotten away with.(5/7)

I also can't help but think of the writer and director's next project together Promare, which was also so homoerotic that it imo becomes a bit crazy to even write it off as "subtext" after awhile. It's like they went "okay, lets do THAT again, but between two guys!!" (4/7)

The show makes more sense when you start to view Ragyo as a manifestation of conformity and heteronormativity while Ryuko arc is coming-of-age and coming to terms with her queer identity. Look no further than the notorious wedding sequence that Mako dramatically interrupts. (3/7)

No it's not JUST because these two are "so close and intimate with each other." That alone is never the reason why I would say something like this. It's the various tropes utilized and thematic underpinnings of the show. In short, Kill la Kill simply makes more sense under the "queer reading." (2/7)

I'm gonna go ahead and toss my hat in the ring, yes I do interpret Ryuko and Mako's relationship as romantic. Yes the show plays coy with it for comedic effect, but I don't have much doubt the showrunners were specifically leaning towards the idea these two girls became a couple by the end. (1/7)

This is the kind of show that SHOULDN'T work but miraculously does. On top of being a a wild action comedy with great animation and badass female leads, it also manages to still have a gripping dramatic story with biting satirical social commentary that is more relevant than ever before!!!

Eat Drink Man Woman (1994)

Caught this on Tubi recently. One of Ang Lee's early Taiwanese films before coming to Hollywood. From the start I fell in love with the movie, a great family drama with fantastic performances and amazing cinematography. Food has never looked THIS good on film.

I do think the plot gets muddled in places and the decision to forgo the super dark ending of the book imo is to the film's detriment. (3/3)

Really dug the synth-heavy score and emphasis on mood and unsettling implication. Manages to also feel slick but a bit artsy at the same time. I think Michael Mann does a good job infusing the film with a atmospheric yet distinctly 80's style. The soundtrack also seriously slaps. (2/3)

Manhunter (1986)

The very first Hannibal Lector movie but the real stars of this psychological mystery thriller are William Peterson as the troubled FBI agent Will Graham and Tom Noonan as the eerie yet alluring Tooth Fairy, who imo steals the show. (1/3)
