Three things made the US a rich and powerful nation: the rule of law, its science & innovation system, and openness to foreign talent. Remarkable how Trump has taken a sledgehammer to all three. No enemy of this country could do more.

I'll just take this moment to point out that the US Institute of Peace, just a few weeks ago, contained one of the finest concentrations of US expertise on India and Pakistan, and crisis management in South Asia.

I'll just note that these are the home pages of the NYT, WaPo, WSJ, and Bloomberg right now. Just stunning parochialism.

The challenges and prospects for increasing women’s mobility in Pakistan To improve women’s access to public spaces and work, mobility programmes in urban Pakistan must address economic constraints, male guarantor requirements, and social barriers.

Many women in #Pakistan rely on a male family member to go to work or even run a simple errand.

I’m halfway through a postdoc with @globalforum.bsky.social and SSA in Colombo 🇱🇰 under the theme of “exclusionary regimes, autocratization, and democracy.” Working on my book on traditional governance and the state, still researching women’s mobility, and watching cricket at every opportunity!

The next phase of ECO-DEM is a workshop in May in Cape Town, bringing together fellows from the Bogotá, Colombo, and Cape Town hubs and across a few disciplines. Excited to present my research on democracy in former FATA, Pakistan!
