There will be no links to specific organizations here. The same instinct that led you to AmeriCorps will help you find the movement that’s right for you — but do not act alone, because only together can we serve.

If you feel powerless, hopeless, or defeated, know that there is always a way to make change. There are still organizations that champion anti-racist policies, but now we must understand that to protect our right to serve others, we need to adopt anti-fascism in our work.

Now, nearly six months later, the current administration has released about $164 million in funding back to AmeriCorps. However, there is no place for the far right in civil service. The White House continues to impose conditions on AC teams that restrict who they can serve and how they can serve.

In April 2025, more than 32,000 AmeriCorps service members had their service prematurely cut short when the government terminated nearly $400 million in grants. The service these members provided to communities in the US was invaluable, with many serving full-time for as little as $1,300 a month.

Fighting back against the policies, like we see in San Francisco, is a justified effort. However, this kind of attention on the agency can ultimately be harmful and may seed more crackdown by OPM and DOGE on the agency.

We will most likely continue to see conditional funding on AC programs nationwide with a lot of programs shutting down for not being able to meet those conditions. If your program is hosted by a very progressive NGO or government agency then there is cause to be worried about your service term.

In San Francisco and Santa Fe, there has been a lawsuit filed against AmeriCorps for withholding funding from programs that do not comply with Executive Orders and policies coming from the President.

What We Do Know:

As of currently (03/12/25) AmeriCorps is not going to be cut as an Agency. If the Appropriations act passes the senate, the Agency will lose ~$80,000,000. Current AC members should not expect any monetary changes.
