anyway all this to say i do understand why people get heated about their command inputs being unreliable but i also believe the barrier to making them reliable is way lower than people admit which is why i hate this discourse so much lol

could i have worked through that? yeah, certainly, but i wasn't committed to the project of being good at woods for its own sake so i just put it down. why bother if i don't enjoy the process

right and i feel like that contributes to lots of people bouncing off. it's the reason i don't like playing woods... at some point i felt like i was just being robbed of my ability to interact with my opponent and high margin time felt like punching a brick wall. not fun!

i guess i'm not convinced those people would have stuck around if they had to deal with their moves not coming out as intended instead. maybe neither is a great experience for new players!

that being said commands discourse is one of my absolute least favorite things

on the other side if i get away with The Dipshit's Jump-in just because my opponent can't reliably DP then i don't feel great about it and it maybe even risks building a bad habit

i'm not sure i agree it flattens the experience, imo it can feel like trying to speak a language where you have only a limited vocabulary and that can be incredibly frustrating with no real upside
