This is going around again and it is not true. Like every site on the internet, Bluesky uses machine learning to do a first-pass approximation of image classification to detect and label content. They have repeatedly confirmed outside services do not use Bluesky user data to train their models.

Posts here are public, so I'd be inclined to work on the assumption that all the major AI players are training their models on everything do. Sadly, that's the nature of things these days: everything everywhere is being harvested.

TBH it's good to be on Bluesky and getting constant reminders that a lot of Americans are decent people, because it's easy to forget that if you just watch the news.

The data brokers are an absolute plague... at least if you stay face-in you can maintain some plausible deniability unless they have access to leaked/stolen data.

I guess IRL folks finding stuff is always a risk but that's much harder to prevent given that they already know you

Yeah, a big concern for folks here in Canada seems to be the prospect of facial and tattoo recognition at the US border. That seems entirely reasonable to me given the long-standing US govt hostility to SW and even more so given the state of things now.

Hadn't thought about the verification thing... but yeah, it makes sense that ad sites at least would some sort of id given the legal environment in the US. You're right that it's probably going to leak, if it hasn't already. Everything does.

No idea what IG's like, alas... I've never really used it much. But needing to move anything remotely adult-oriented away from there to more friendly venues jives with what I've heard.

Glad to hear it! The folks I've seen were ones who were posting here regularly, but TBH I have no idea what their expectations were or whether those were reasonable.

Yup. But I see people complain about lack of engagement here, so I'm not sure how it pans out in the end. We really just need to get all the clients over here, although I have no idea how to achieve that.

I think a lot of it is inertia. I'm not sure that people are necessarily trapped or clinging, but breaking an established habit and moving to a new environment takes a bit of effort. It's also a risk - you lose your established relationships and may not be able to resume them at the new place.
