Absolutely go do this now. If your drive is like mine, you will have to do it in a web browser in desktop view, the app and mobile view browser didn't have that settings page.
My drive went from taking 3-15 seconds to open folders to instantly opening them with a few seconds to load the thumbnails.

That's not the setting. Both were already turned off in my app. I had to open my drive in my web browser and switch to desktop view before I was finally able to find the setting and actually turn it off.
