The law should protect victims, not enable abusive fundamentalists – with wealthy American backers – who believe in demonic possession! We’ve been campaigning on this for 45+ years. Theresa May promised a ban in 2018. Four Prime Ministers later, and we’re still campaigning!

Gay man wins damages after ‘exorcism’ by Church of England parish Matthew Drapper has received a five-figure settlement from a Sheffield church after enduring conversion therapy intended to rid him of homosexuality

Great to see Matthew succeed in his case against the church that subjected him to an ‘exorcism’ for ‘demonic possession’. His experience – tragically shared by many in our community – underscores exactly why so-called ‘conversion therapy’ must be banned. www.thetimes.com/article/b517...

We’ve been campaigning on this issue for 45+ years. In 2018, under Theresa May’s Government, it looked like progress was finally within reach. Four Prime Ministers later, we’re still waiting.

A conversion therapy ban was promised a year ago - but we're still waiting 'The time for action is long overdue'

'Conversion therapy' is hatred disguised as religious compassion. Each day it remains legal is another day vulnerable people fall victim o it. 'Exorcisms', beatings, forced prayer - these are still legal in high-control religious settings.

The majority of LGBT people are non-religious, and very few religious groups offer same-sex marriages. Humanist celebrants always have – and always will. Many LGBT couples want a fully recognised humanist wedding. It's time they were given that right.

Alan Turing, one of Britain’s most renowned humanists, was a visionary whose genius helped the Allies win WWII. Yet despite his extraordinary contributions, he was subjected to chemical castration by the British state in 1952. This #PrideMonth, we remember him. He was born #OnThisDay 1912.

The idea that acknowledging the existence of gay people will somehow 'turn' children gay is not only ignorant – it’s laughable. If that were true, every gay person would have ended up straight. Representation doesn’t convert anyone. It just makes it safer for people to be who they already are.

Growing up gay means being surrounded by heteronormative ideas from every direction. We’re taught from the earliest age that boys marry girls, that love looks a certain way, that families follow a single pattern. And yet, despite all of that, we still come out gay.

A bite of duck helped me finally accept my sexuality When I realised I was gay at the age of 14, it was terrifying.

For many, coming out also means confronting the beliefs they were raised with – not by choice, but because their religion refuses to accept who they truly are. So many of our members come to us through @faith2faithless.bsky.social.

#OnThisDay 1999, a neo-Nazi nail bombed the Admiral Duncan pub in Soho deliberately targeted London's LGBT community. The explosion killed Andrea Dykes, John Light, and Nik Moore, and injured over 70 more. Today, we honour their memory, and stand united against hate, always.

In 1976, religious conservative Mary Whitehouse launched a blasphemy case against Gay News.

It was the last successful blasphemy trial in the UK.

She blamed an 'intellectual, homosexual, and humanist lobby' for the backlash. There was no lobby – but we liked the idea.

And LGBT Humanists was born.
