Extremely impressive group from WV and the Comets’ shots weren’t falling. Still a fantastic run by the GUAA’s Philly contingent.

Thunder are 10/15 from 3. Comets 4/13.

After 1Q: WV Thunder 23, Comets 13

Thunder came out and hit their first six 3s, Comets have missed some open shots. That’s the difference so far.

Also want to give a shoutout to the Lady Runnin’ Rebels and Philly Revolution 15s, who are playing today for an HGSL championship in Atlantic City.

Unfortunately I can’t be in two places at once.

One final morning of grassroots coverage for 2025. GUAA championships at Spooky Nook. Comets 2027s play WV Thunder Johnson in the 16U title game at 10:35am. Could be the first GUAA title of any kind for the Comets, who’ve overcome two major injuries to get there.

The Comets’ 15U bid for a GUAA championship ends in the semifinals. FBC We Trust with a 53-52 win.

Watched a fantastic 17U semifinal as Wisconsin Lakers beat FBC United 69-65.

The Comets 16s will play for a GUAA championship tomorrow morning. 58-52 the final over FBC United Family.

16U GUAA semifinals (halftime): Comets 30, FBC United 22

FBC has a significant size advantage but the Comets are shooting well and playing tough D, doing it without two key players due to injury.

Just watched WV Thunder Johnson stomp on Team Thrill 73-35 in a GUAA 17U quarterfinal. ESPN 2027 No. 2 Ivanna Wilson Manyacka had 23 pounds, five boards and four steals. 2026 G/F Annsley Trivette added an efficient 17. Really impressive group.

Comets 2028s are also in the semifinals after a 51-38 win. Kayla Eberz (Archbishop Carroll) led the way with 20+ points, nine rebounds and more.

Out at Spooky Nook for the GUAA Championships. Comets 16s already punched a ticket to the semifinals; 15s are up 33-19 at halftime and playing well in their quarterfinal.

Semifinals early this afternoon; title games tomorrow morning.

Today's Hoop Group standouts (plus a few from Thursday) will run tomorrow night. Haven't been able to edit any photos, due to a combination of bad hotel Wi-Fi and leaving both of my connector cables back in Delco. Equally responsible.

Hotel in AC hosting a dance competition plus plenty of basketball teams. The dance kids have more luggage/bigger bags by FAR. Even the little ones!!

I'll be at the GUAA championships at Spooky Nook on Sunday. Multiple other CoBL writers will be out this weekend as well.

Headed down to Atlantic City from now through Saturday to cover the Hoop Group Girls HGSL Championships and the Boys Summer Finale. First time I'll be at a tournament with boys and girls grassroots teams under the same roof, should be a lot of fun.

Going to have some content from this weekend's MADE Hoops and Hoop Group (Boys) HGSL Championships up on the site today/tomorrrow. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it out for any of it.

Feeling better today, optimistic that by Wednesday I'll be up to going out and covering hoops again.

If you can present data that things have changed, let me know. It doesn’t seem like there is some major exodus like you seem convinced of.

West Catholic coach Miguel Bocachica confirms he's stepping down "for a coaching opportunity near my son," who lives in Georgia. Was at WC for 7 years, won two state championships and was named PIAA coach of the year twice and PCL COY in 2021-22. Burrs won the PIAA 3A trophy in 2024-25.
