One hand pushes his feathers on his arm apart , showing scarring from where he’d had his feathers plucked full force .

Sniffling . The younger Avian rubbed his face . Trembles running down his spine .

“ I — . . . the Armada . They — never respected me . They still don’t . ”

Looking at his hand his shakiness clear .

“ Everyday … they — beat me up and - ”

“ Heh — heheh … you done crushing my ribs , Bluebird? ”

“ … I— I’ve been gone because — of so much . I don’t get it … how can you look at me and not think of me badly — ? ”

Looking up. His eyes were teary .
He really was just a kid . He never got to cry at home. Now he can’t control it .

“ I dunno … thought I was pretty forgettable . Just another Kukku to deal with . ”

“ … But — I’ve done so many bad things — and I can’t leave the Armada— but I can’t — I can’t be a leader , Jet . ”

Hugging his arms , Speedy struggles to look at him .

“ I’m — scared … and — I can’t forgive myself for what I’ve done . ”

Stumbling a bit .

“ You—- actually —? Missed me—??? ”

Speedy felt his face grow warmer , blinking .

“ GAH—?! Cloud—?! ”

“ I thought after I last saw you , you woulda given up on me .

… I— I shouldn’t really be out right now — but I — ”

He couldn’t find his words , eyes peeled to the ground below his shoes . He — hasn’t been great . That’s obvious .

“ Nnnh … work , work , work until I drop dead . That was dad’s whole motto . ”

Speedy fumbles with his gloves ,
The smaller , more frail Kukku that he was , spoke up with a subtle crack in his voice .

“ … You — miss me ? ”

Awkward chuckle , stood behind the hawk .

Peeking from between his fingers , all warm in the face . He can’t handle that smile .

“ I know your name . I thought it’d be a cute nickname . Cuz — you’re cute — ”

Proceeding to turn around and bury his face into his hands. He regrets saying that.
