It’s been two months since I started my new job and when I tell you that not being screamed at by psychopathic Elvises on the daily has done wonders for my mental health, I mean it.

All this to say, it feels like a metaphor for how trauma works once you exit a toxic relationship. You think you’ve gotten rid of all the bad feelings and then BAM, you get stabbed with a reminder of how terrible things were.

Two fucking years after he left guess who just stepped on glass and bled on the floor after cleaning the kitchen?

Naturally he didn’t (booze and narcissism don’t mix). Whenever he broke a glass he’d just freeze because he didn’t want to step on glass in bare feet, so I always had to clean it up. It’d always be late at night and we’d always end up finding more glass with our feet over the following weeks.

My ex (a raging alcoholic) used to toss glasses he was using to make drinks in while we were talking in the kitchen, sort of spinning them in his hand like he was a fancy bartender or something. The first time he broke a glass I asked him to stop doing that.
