In light of todayβs tragic news from Tehran, it's worth reflecting on how public support for military action can change depending on how victims are portrayed.
Research with @andyvonasch.bsky.social and myself shows people are MUCH more likely to endorse strikes when the victims are unidentified.

Should we do psychology research to fight injustice & combat the world's problems? NO say Alex Schmid & Albert Jongman: the researcher's role is not to be a "firefighter" of social problems, but a "student of combustion." To understand, rather than chase outcomes. Do you agree?

Grad students have to learn both their field of study and how science is communicated, as well as what academic life is like. The Two Psychologists Four Beers podcast really helped me understand the "behind the scenes" of academia. Strongly recommend to any prospective psych academics! [link below]

One thing I learned from moving to the southern hemisphere is that the moon is upside down here because we view it from a different angle.

Teaching and the vanishing art of connection | Steven Most | TEDxUNSW Salon
I recently gave a talk arguing -- through the lens of cognitive psychology -- for the irreplaceableness of human connection in teaching & learning.
Bluesky's connected me to a community studying and thinking deeply about education. Do elements of this talk add meaningfully to the conversation?

Love this! In an age when students and universities are pushing for AI tools and distanced learning maintaining the human connection with our students has never been so important. Great suggestions on how to cultivate connection and enthusiasm in the classroom.

How many screens are you running these days? I'm up to 3 and I feel addicted, they already block my majestic view of Mt. Hutt. Should I add a fourth?
