To his party, and to the voters of New York City. Even if he didn't want to officially endorse at that time, he needed to step up and condemn his colleagues remarks, instead of lending credence to them.

In a normal campaign, this is true. In the context of his own Democratic colleagues publicly smearing him as a jihadist and antisemite, Jeffries had a responsibility to act sooner.
