The way I see it is that tonight Starmer had no other serious option but to do what he has. However, he must have known as soon as the attacks happened that an indiscriminate Iranian response was likely and failed to do anything to prepare the public for the consequences. That's what's screwed him.

Didn't see anywhere that it looks as the win was driven by the Muslim community, disappointed with Labour, who turned-out in big numbers. Plus the Greens managed to convince most people they were the tactical vote so Labour voters switched? I'm not sure this can be repeated in many places?

I’m not sure if the ‘rise’ is a big as the result suggests. It was driven by a big turnout from Muslim community who were disappointed with Labour and Labour voters were told the tactical vote was for the Greens to keep Reform out. Quite unusual combination of factors here.
