A little update on my deck building wedding game (Wedding Planic) I made this video to capture some of the stuff that I didn’t just break on my last major refactor 😅🥲 Indie Dev Life.

Figuring out the design language for all of the possible outcomes of card placements in my indie roguelike card game. Still work in progress because I’m off to have a beer with some other developers! But here’s some images my work so far…

A little video I put together to show some of my progress on Wedding Planic! A lot of the functionality is in place, I’m getting ready to make the actual deck of peeps and start balancing the gameplay loop. Still a mountain of animation and UI to do 😅 solo indie dev is… hard.

I must have played 100s of hours. I still don’t know what I’m doing. I refuse to google it.

The only “victory condition” I’ve managed is to get old, unfulfilled at a desk job.

I think about the game all day. I think I love it and I think I hate it.

This is super dumb, I've never tried to release a solo game before and have so much to do before I go anywhere near Steam - so I set up a substack so that WIP posts aren't time wasted. I got my first real sub today and I know it's the smallest of starts but I feel really happy about it.

a) just say the thing I'm thinking
b) run, hide and avoid the person entirely

He replied: “yes! You can tell it’s expensive because of how complicated the pattern is!”

Then I see a video of Jensen, Jared and Misha announcing a reunion in The Boys and I’m a happy little imp again.

I admire people that do this, did you play with 2,3 or 4 peeps? Googling “how to kidnap friends in a nice way for a weekend”

A Next Fest demo is onto a winner when it ends and your heart sinks because you can’t play on. This is one to watch! A perfect mix of stuff we know and love with new and interesting ideas. I love the room building mechanic, it reminds me of Castles of Mad King Ludwig and I wish I’d thought of it!

Oh heck yeah this looks great.

Reader: there are 4 acts in the Slay The Spire Board game. At best this is going to take me 6 hours to do one run through. 💀

Dunder Mifflin in Meta Horizons could have been awesome.

But I just found myself shouting at an office full of kids like they were my dumb interns going “No, Kelly Kapoor’s desk is in the nook! Deliver the package there!” and I caught myself like wtf am I doing with my life I need to touch grass.

Art iteration is good for the soul. Feels like it’s heading in a direction.

Oh yes I love OG Dominion. I didn’t appreciate it at the time but it has a lot to answer for! (In a good way!)

To strengthen my knowledge on deck-building mechanics I gathered my IRL games to prep for a big research play sesh.

But just discovered that only 3 games from my game mountain actually count. 😱

Don’t worry… I just placed a big order to correct this problem 🤓

Hurrah! You passed the friend test! (Didn’t know it was C64 also though!) I could totally use a reboot of this IP, totally baffling in theme and plot. I love it.

But I’m hoping that someone having a lunchtime coffee will see this combo of symbols and it will be like a slap round the face to a memory of their childhood. 😆

Ha! Tbf… it’s from a semi-forgotten game (big release on Sega but not one that I ever hear people talk about!) and you’d only get my reference if you knew this specific level unlock cheat.

So it’s probably just going to be me, and those that made the game at this point.
