Any medical history nerds around, especially disabled and/or chronically ill? This *feels* incorrect to me, AIDS notably comes to mind.
But also I'm French-Swedish so I easily mix up "not made available in the system / not covered / import-restricted" with "banned or heavily restricted"

(The account also strikes me as possibly unauthentic. Unusual amount of follows for an account with few followers, patterns in the bio text which I've seen on many more blatantly bullshit accounts. But that's 50% gut feel)

Lots of people reposting this but:
- this text is in neither of the linked articles in the thread;
- that's suspiciously LLM-esque summary prose;
- there's a butthole logo in the bottom left and so I assume the UI is not that of a comment, but of a chatbot.
Ergo: CITATION NEEDED

Lily Alexandre had a really good video about "Transition regret and the fascism of endings" that hits at some of it on the more philosophical level. It's so important to make room for complicated narratives, independent of optimal political strategies! (Not that I even think it is a good strategy)

Flamman's optimistic about France here - our cultural institutions are a major mechanism of wealth transfer from taxes to doofuses like Jack Lang, though courtesy of the Epstein files he's finally being booted from the Institut du Monde Arabe.
But yes, the Swedish obsession with The Market is a mess

I appreciate that the Metaphor team was basically going "yeah if you want to do it like we do you need to pay a large UI team and have a dozen artists, obviously" in interviews. The balance between style and usability is a tricky one, too, Metaphor et al make me badly motion sick for instance

Via some kind of cosmic irony there's an interview snippet with Damasio going around French Bluesky today where this clown says generative AIs are now on par with his level of craft and will surpass him soon. Thank gods for death of the author

Oh interesting, people who don't know how to build software are getting mad at my post about building software. Cute.
Let me be clear, over the next year, the job of software engineer will shift dramatically to no longer have typing syntax into an editor as its primary time sink.
In my entire 15 year career in software development, βtyping syntax into an editorβ has never been the primary time sink.
Most of the time was spent on understanding what the software was actually supposed to do and to resolve conflicting requirements.

really tired of conversations about how we need to get people to spend more time offline that don't acknowledge that one of the reasons people ARE online is their access needs aren't being met in physical spaces. This is especially true for queer people and disabled people.

Oh they likely do, people out there have just apparently forgotten that reviewing code is (much) harder than writing it. It's a lot like translation that way

The interface I ACTUALLY want is a giant Minority Report magic screen that lets me slice and move chunks of code with arbitrary granularity across 5+ active files. The strict linearity of the average code editor is the major limitation I run into! Still not fixable by a bullshit machine.

If it was about *manipulating text* I would agree: that's the part that typically goes slower than thought when actively iterating on code. Typing and manipulating text are two very different operations, however. And unless the bullshit machine can *actually* read your mind, and it can't, well...

Near-every time a Bluesky team member goes viral on here it's absolutely textbook programmer assholery. The baffling part isn't them being jerks, it's the company letting them have special handles while they do that.
That said: what kind of clownish coder claims TYPING SPEED is what's slow, geez

I've got a textile scholar in my circles who likes to trace obviously-ridiculous (to practitioners) claims back, typically to some Victorian douchecanoe talking out of his ass but getting cited by everyone since. It's very funny and utterly depressing

La Horde du Contrevent has ISSUES, to say the least. But it is deeply, deeply interested in absurdity in the philosophical sense, in loving the process, in *found* family and the betrayal of institutions. It is spiritual and playful, with a (misogynistic!) fascination for hypercompetent women

I've watched The Video about Clair Obscur and now I definitely need to play the thing once I've settled the writing debt, because I will have a different (meaner) skewering approach, notably by putting it in conversation with the book they claim as an inspiration (which I adore and resent)

So another easy counter I would not have arguments for is "Yeah but you don't do normal programming work". I sure don't, it's near-all building a strong, accurate mental model and helping users. Therefore, maybe this is useful to someone else? I wouldn't know, and I have to assume they're not fools!

Another trap is that I do very weird shit. I barely do any feature dev, and when I do the hard part of the problem is that it's all houses of cards on quicksand and/or I want it to fit a bigger picture, especially outside my little haunted turf, notably in rendering systems
