I've got a textile scholar in my circles who likes to trace obviously-ridiculous (to practitioners) claims back, typically to some Victorian douchecanoe talking out of his ass but getting cited by everyone since. It's very funny and utterly depressing

Its leader is a survivor and an abuser, a hero and a piece of shit, stubbornness incarnate who bends physics to his will. Its politics are a hot mess and the author's are worse. It is maybe the piece of art I have the most conflicted relationship to.

So another easy counter I would not have arguments for is "Yeah but you don't do normal programming work". I sure don't, it's near-all building a strong, accurate mental model and helping users.
