Every time I use a pit toilet I am worried I will drop something of value in them.

Then I convince myself it is an irrational fear.

I have borrowed three books from the library (all nonfiction) in the past year that I only heard about here. I’ve also requested order of at least one.

I’m not surprised at my Colorado senators at this point but I am still disappointed in them.

Way to go, New Mexico!

When I was a child we had a book about Louis Pasteur’s life with illustrations of soldiers in a syringe that would dive through the needle and do battle against rabies β€œmonsters” inside the body of Joseph Meister, a boy who had been bitten by a rabid dog. Effective storytelling!

Yep. And those losing even more small businesses that are being impacted by tariffs.

Tariffs might bring some manufacturing back eventually but in the meantime it will be a big impact to independent retail and grocery stores where they have managed to hang on.

Good question. My knee jerk response is that they should having regular conversations with Jess and people β€œon the ground” in these places who are having actual conversations.

Also, as others have pointed out, recruiting candidates to run so there are not unopposed GOP in local races.

I cannot imagine the owner of a resort with so many employees taking notice of a teenage employee leaving unless:

1) the owner had a personal interest or relationship with said teenager

or

2) the owner knows that the person who hired them away is going to do awful things

Isn’t either damning?

Can not one reporter convince someone to let her take a spa day at Mar-a-Lago and talk to the therapists there while getting a massage?

Most massage therapists are talky people and β€œwow, you’re good at this, how long have you been doing this? When did you start working here?” could be journalism.

It also is so weird to me that Trump says Epstein was β€œstealing” employees. TEENAGERS.

Like, this wasn’t his CFO. This was someone who probably showed up to work late, had to regularly be reminded about company dress code, and was talking with friends while on the clock. As teenage employees do.

But the Democratic Party so desperately wants to be tech savvy!

Just look at how difficult it is for them to stand up to the big tech companies. Look at how much they spend each cycle on online advertising.

Maybe Trump knew from the beginning that the Epstein stuff was going to blow up on him and wrecking the economy for regular people was his planned distraction?

Maybe Liberation Day was about liberating him?

If you’re in NE AR I presume you have some land? Apple trees are one of the easier fruit trees to grow. πŸ™‚

While you wait for them to mature, I did find a few farms with apples by looking for lists near nearby cities. This is one of a few but you could ask them for others. Road trip to Memphis?

Mostly just giving you a hard time! I second your statement.

There are free sites for Hex conversion but the primary aim of the first several pages of search results is to show you as many ads as possible instead of bulk convert. If there’s a good tool you could look for 30 mins and still not find it.

Yeah, I don’t know much about TX or Lower Mississippi Basin ag.

Happy to see Ft Collins, which has great ag science schooling and jobs, on the list.

If California or PNW wants a hub I am sure they will get one with future leadership but this seems like a good start compared to all the other stuff.

26.07.2025 15:25 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I think there should be more than five hubs.

I feel these five all make sense than original post implied. SLC area (Boise’s fine by me!) has lots of USDA beneficiaries even if not β€œtop 5” state.

I’ve also said CA/AZ should have a hub.

Has anyone asked TX if they even want one if it’s not TXDA? πŸ˜‰

26.07.2025 15:10 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I think OP wants TX to have something closer, as well. And I would agree with that, too.

26.07.2025 14:54 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Oh. You’re also arguing there should not be an office in Salt Lake City?

I’ve crisscrossed every western US state. USDA plays a major role in these areas and regional offices in Salt Lake City and Raleigh both make total sense. There should *also* be an office in proximity to CA/AZ farms.

26.07.2025 14:53 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Not sure if you are responding to me or OP but I agree.

Even if you ignore ranching (which is also part of USDA mission) these areas are filled with ranching operations and they are cornerstones of those economies.

Smaller part of economy in the east but still lots of small producers.

26.07.2025 14:31 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

No office in the southwest is a head scratcher given the quantity and diversity of crops and their distinct climactic and hydrologic profile.

Locations of these five makes sense but more could be justified. Lots of small ops farms in eastern half of US and USDA also serves ranchers.
