What is sovereignty?
βI'm not talking about the colonized mind. I'm not talking about the white people's thinking. What is sovereignty in your own thinking? Your own culture? That's what we need to think about."

13.10.2025 20:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0While we are bound by US Supreme Court precedent, we are not bound to stay silent as to the underlying racism and prejudices that are woven into the very fabric of those opinions.
Instead, every chance we get, we must clearly, loudly, and unequivocally state that was βwrong.β
That was wrong.

WA Supreme Court upholds Stillaguamish sovereignty, property rights. Justice Mungia dissents:
βNot from the majority's opinionβ¦ from the racism embedded in the federal case law that applies to this dispute.β

We need improved business codes to encourage lenders; streamlined registration processes to empower entrepreneurs; and training for tribal government staff to manage the institutions that support private sector development.
12.06.2025 22:38 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thereβs an entrepreneurial spirit that lays dormant in Native communities. How do we restore our entrepreneurial traditions?
12.06.2025 22:38 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Think like nations. Get comfortable with taxation. Fiscal power is a crucial component of sovereignty for Native nations. The government has no business being in business. If necessary, government should only regulate business to foster private sector development on the reservation.
12.06.2025 22:37 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Federal Indian law is why we canβt have nice things on the reservation. Federal Indian law is why we struggle to grow our economies. A tour of historical SCOTUS rulings can help us understand the state of Native nations today.
How do we recover from the damage wrought by the Marshall Trilogy?
For centuries we had rules and customs that allowed us to welcome visitors from other nations and do business with them.
What has changed?
Federal Indian law.
