My issue is with people turning this into an opportunity to shame others for their “lack of morals” or whatever when, going by those standards, we are all “guilty” in some shape or form. I already regret opening my mouth but I stand by what I said either way.

My issue isn’t people not wanting to play the game for genAI usage, in the least. When I found my first chatbot NPC I was incredibly taken aback (Aina actually had to explain to me that this is most likely an in-house trained smaller LLM model).

How dystopian is it that all these things always end with people fighting each other over who has the moral highground rather than looking towards our corporate overlords and questioning why they can make such profit off a technology that is disliked by a majority of people.

For playing wwm is the least of my concerns, but I do feel bad for people being ousted from their respective communities for it when we are all XIV players in the end.

Class citizens for playing some f2p game when NONE of us can escape directly funding genAI. If people don’t want their money to go into genAI then they will have to log off the internet and not log on again. I got no horses in this race because I don’t use this app much so being blocked

If you play ffxiv then you also are okay with AI to a certain extent and don’t see it as a dealbreaker because this game single-handedly has been funding whatever shenanigans SE has been pulling. It’s their most profitable IP. My whole entire point was that there’s no point shaming fellow working

No where did I say AI usage is fine, I merely called out the hypocrisy of talking smack about people playing a game that contains minor LLM-usage when we all fill Square “AI will do 70% of our QA” Enix’ pockets.

One last thing, the monetisation in wwm isn’t aggressive in the least and there is no boosts or whatever to speak of that enhance gameplay in any way. The monetisation is entirely cosmetic. And again, the in-game AI is in no way comparable with things like midjourney or chatgpt.

The 40k boat you keep mentioning is the reason the game can be f2p whilst offering as much as it does. The chatbots in the game aren’t chatgpt-level of chatbots. Honestly just such a weird, weird thing to be shaming people for playing this game when we have all been paying for our XIVsub for years.

SE has been pushing for AI for years now, including other questionable things like NFTs and yet everyone in this thread has been lining their pockets. Also them *claiming* the current layoffs aren’t AI related doesn’t change the fact that they are replacing 70% of their QA-workforce with AI.

I didn’t call for anything since I was being quite obviously sarcastic. Expecting anyone to dodge all the genAI corporations are throwing at us is unrealistic, claiming people shouldn’t play a game and be f2p because it uses AI in ways that are in no way mandatory gameplay is genuinely weird.

I am fully against genAI but I need people to understand that virtue signalling on socmed won’t actually change anything because every single one of us does support genAI in some way, often without realising. Put some pressure on your governments instead, it’s the only thing that might help.

I hope this means everyone is going to unanimously unsubscribe from FF14, considering SE just announced mass-layoffs + wanting 70% of their QA done by AI by 2027. Unlike where winds meet FF14 isn’t f2p, so by subscribing and playing it you are directly and monetarily supporting genAI!
