I start a 3-mo art residency tomorrow and it feels somewhat self-indulgent to post about it with *waves hands at the US*. But, then this showed up in my feed and I'm reminded of why art is so important in even the darkest of times.

In no way am I suggesting that horrid and abusive homeschool parents do not exist. However, if the school had actually done their due diligence, the abuse would have ended before he was taken out of school. We have a broken CPS system and homeschooling was exploited by these monsters, in this case.

Your rationale still does NOT make this a homeschool issue. The problem begins w a schools refusing to meet their legally mandated reporting requirement and ends with a broken child welfare system that does inadequate investigations and too often drops the ball - all which cause children to suffer.

A horrifying case of child abuse BUT this has nothing to do with homeschooling. The school was aware of the child's malnutrition yet they never bothered to report the family until he was withdrawn from school. How long did this child suffer because teachers failed in the mandatory reporting?
