I read the headline and at first felt sorry for the taxpayer. Then as I read the story I kept thinking, okay but they were warned (and never mind the risks of investing that much money in penny stocks). And then they were warned again. And fined before being wanted again.

This image only shows a small part of the nebula (which covers an area about 5 times larger than the full moon). It's located in the constellation Cygnus at a distance of about 2500 light years. The gas itself is mostly ionized Hydrogen with some Helium and other trace gases like Oxygen.

The summer has been pretty lousy for stargazing but the last few days has been exceptionally clear. I finally got a chance to test out a new Hyperstar Lens for my telescope.
This is a 30 minute image of part of NGC 7000 (also know as the North America Nebula).

Instead of increasing penalties for killing someone, why don't you just make it harder to . . . you know. . . .own a . . . car.

Yeah, that's it. A car. Not like that's a code word for something else.

Isn't there an old saying something along the lines of how it's hard to convince someone of X if his livelihood depends on believing the opposite?

Learning ABOUT science, even in the absence of specific facts of content, gives people the ability to critically analyze information they are confronted with and appreciate the nuanced nature of the ways science works.

I'm proof reading my dissertation and something interesting occurred to me.
There is a difference between learning Science and learning about Science. Learning science (content) is valuable but only if we understand and trust how that knowledge was developed.

And we sent fire fighter to Los Angelas during their wildfires WHILE the US president threatened Canada with annexation.

I'm not saying it's a good idea or a bad idea. Just that it's not up to the Premier.

Besides, despite the noise, separatism in Alberta isn't popular. Not more than 25% of people support it. More people would be fully behind uniting against the US.

They don't have to agree. Politically unpopular maybe but export taxes aren't provincial.

Yesterday evening I took this photo of noctilucent clouds above the Prince of Wales hotel in Waterton. These clouds are formed by tiny ice crystals at the very edge of space reflecting light from the Sun after it has dropped below the horizon.

I bet this is all because July 4th is next week and he wants to announce some sort of 'Independence Tariff' so the MAGA crowd has something to celebrate (and distract from losing health coverage).

I've been very disappointed with the near abandonment of environmental stewardship that seems to be emerging.

Despite Trump stealing nuclear secrets he was never wrestled to the ground, handcuffed, or arrested.

America, where immigrants are a bigger threat than nuclear weapons.

You know who else wore masks? Stormtroopers. And they were not the good guys.

Wearing a mask isn't living in fear, the same way avoiding ionizing radiation isn't living in fear.

This movie shows the bubbling surface of a distant star, as captured with unprecedented clarity by the ALMA observatory.

R Doradus is a huge star. Each of these bubbles is 50-75 times the diameter of our entire Sun! πŸ§ͺπŸ”

Sadly I don't think it will move the needle for UCP supporters. Like the guy running the US, they knew what they were getting before the election and still voted for it.

And still supported it.

Even in the extreme case where Smith herself is criminally charged there will be all sorts of excuses.

Alberta - Happy the federal government is helping severely disabled.

Also Alberta - Clawing back money from the severely disabled because the federal government is giving them money.

Also also Alberta - Wanting to separate because what has the federal government ever done for us?
