Frog in a pond

Habitats for frogs, toads and newts are in decline: 50% of ponds were lost during the 20th century – and of those that remain, 80% are in a poor state. So garden ponds are crucial for helping amphibians survive - and they help all sorts of other wildlife too!

Today's little bit of #nature #joy. Found my first ever Elephant Hawk #moth #caterpillar in our garden. What an impressive little dude he was.

I discovered a new (to me) flower today... My app tells me it's Broadleaf Helleborine. I think it's rather lovely.

Today's little bit of #nature joy. #Raindrops on garden leaves...

I also feel sad, because the inevitable outcome is there being too many #Ladybirds and not enough aphids left, so lots of them will starve. #Nature being nature, #balance is restored. And again I wonder are we paying attention to the messages all around us.

Endless growth is not possible.

I discovered a #swarm of #Ladybirds stopped a England Cricket game. It made me smile. I imagine they were protesting. Perhaps they all had little signs saying no Cricket on a dead planet.
But I wonder are we listening or are we just irritated by the inconvenience.

A quick bit of googling seems to suggest the consensus is that, they are in response to so many aphids due to the hot dry weather we were having. So Ladybirds doing what they do and responding to their prey populations, all good. But also a sign that things are out of balance.

They make me smile, but also made me wonder are they a good thing or a sign things are out of #balance.

If we cease pumping carbon into the atmosphere (as we must), but continue destroying nature, we'll STILL collapse our liveable planet.

We need to stop doing BOTH, with equal urgency.

My favourite flower. From a childhood of walking down the track from the school bus, lined with flowers & Harebells were my favourites. I always imagineed them as fairy hats then. Now I love how delicate & fragile they are and yet wild and hardy.
