I mean we really don't see any mention of increased funding for the Jaegers either after this.
Perhaps the walls are primarily designed to maintain property values over actual defense....
Much like climate change, the existential threat is simply ignored once it becomes to expensive to solve...

Like, by the time the Kajiu reach the city, you can't really bomb it anymore, right? You want to be engaging these before they ever get close to a city. An all-terrain combat robot makes way more sense than a planet-spanning wall.
