This is important because it's a core element of media literacy, which is necessary for your own autonomy in an era of nationalism, fascism, and authority.

I think it is really important for people to understand that a TV show, book, or film doesn't need to be good in order to be enjoyed. But also that enjoying a piece of entertainment doesn't necessarily mean it's good. Quality is separate from your experience.

GenAI is a tool the way that seabed trawlers are, or dynamite uses in mountain-top extraction mining, or a dam that destroys a river, or a bomb. Sure, they're "things that do stuff when wielded by humans" (tool) but they're also super destructive forces unleashed by capital (absolute tools).

"AI is a tool."

No. Empirically not. A tool empowers people; helps people. It solves an extant problem. Generative AI in creative mediums is being used as a cudgel that diminishes and eliminates people, and the only "problem" being solved is fiscal.

Stop validating it, even in passing.

A Budget is a statement of your values and the statement Mark Carney made with #Budget2025 is that he values multi-national corporations more than the lives of Canadians. You would know that if you read it.
