"Spielberg is to dinosaurs as Cameron is to the Titanic/deep ocean exploration."

Something I just wrote to my BFF of 62 years about "The Dinosaurs" on Netflix.

We're much older now but we still love dinosaurs.

(Treasure those old friends who let you be yourself.)

The last paragraph is key.

Oh, that is hilarious.

I had to un-follow a celebrated sci-fi author because he kept posting AI crap, and was dismissive of people calling him out on it. "I like it, embrace it," he wrote.

If anyone had an understanding of "uncanny valley" and how it makes you feel ill, it should've been him.

Many cakes of dark green cotton yarn / threaad.

That was a whole lotta cranking, but I think I've turned it into something that the hand crocheters and knitters can use; put two or three strands together, and it will make a lot more washcloths for people who need them. (5/5)

I made a dozen or so washcloths, then decided that a) it was not how I wanted to spend my time, and b) I risked damaging my vintage knitting machine (the cotton was old and dry -- but it did wash up nicely afterward, and turn soft). So I turned to the cake winder. It's cranked by hand. (4/5)

I spoke with one of the admins and she agreed that it looks and feels like cotton to her, and the ladies are always looking for cotton. I think they passed on the spool because it was finely stranded (and big and heavy). So I noted that I also have a cake winder and can wind it off. (3/5)

It was a decent weight for my flatbed knitting machine. I also know that the other members are mainly crocheters who use large hooks, but I think they'd be okay with this yarn if they double the strands. And they have a standing request for many cotton washcloths. (2/5)

I'm a member of a group that knits for USA charities. No 501(c)(3) status (which I have already questioned the leaders about). They buy their own yarn and welcome donations.

One donation was a massive spool of what I think (after testing) is cotton, maybe a factory spool, about a foot wide. (1/5)

NYTimes text (Michelle Cottle):
As Ms. Noem is finding out, it’s hard out there for a MAGA woman. You have to jump through trickier hoops than the men to get attention, but your efforts to please can work against you. The second your swaggering performance becomes a problem, the president kicks you to the curb. Just ask Marjorie Taylor Greene, who, after falling out with the president, fled the House and is now devoting herself to viciously critiquing his Iran policy.

Maybe Ms. Noem should consider a similar route, using her newfound freedom to tell the public how she really feels about what she was asked to do and defend in Mr. Trump’s name. She might even claw back some of that self-worth she gave up along the way.

He never honors his debts, though. The fake new title might be for HIM to save face, and not about her at all.

There are so many beautiful photos of cats shared here. This is also a beautiful cat. You'll have to trust me on that.

The tally as of now: 824,798 Dem primary voters vs. 625,667 GOP voters. (Cooper stands at 758,808.)

A part of me is glad to see that her treatment of the dog and the billy goat have been festering in Tillis's mind until he had the opportunity to tell her so in a very public fashion.

Yes, that's bad. It's deliberately spreading false information with the intent of making it harder for people to vote.

Successive American presidents have had the good sense to reject Netanyahu's persistent attempts over a long period of time to drag them into a war with Iran, but in Trump he has finally found one stupid enough to fall for it .. (old Steve Sack cartoon from the Obama era)

WTH? I'm a poll worker in another state who has been told to stay an hour later (no change in pay) to make up for bureaucratic snafus that inconvenienced voters. It happens. There is zero reason to contest it.

For those slow at math: Roy Cooper, alone, has received more than the total number of GOP votes cast.
It's early yet. That could change. We can check the comparative tally again tomorrow. But it could well indicate which party has an enthusiastic base.

Opinion | Nine Law Firms Surrendered. Four Law Firms Won.

This focuses on the law firms, but the principles are broader. Don't appease. Stand firm. If you yourself are not targeted, then make it publicly clear that you stand with those who are.
