The words at top read: "Your mission today, should you choose to accept:" Below the image, the words read, "Read a book. Some wise earlier version of you already chose the words you need. This one actually does not require you to read the longer version. But if you want to, it's here:

Your mission today, should you choose to accept. This one definitely requires a visit to the longer form version for context:

This is a tough one, folks, but I know you've got this. It's just ONE thing. And it's already in your mind - you don't have to choose, just the one that burns you up when you think of it. Just that one, or one step toward it.

But we don't have to. We can choose another path. We can choose to stand between the fascists and the people they threaten first. We can say *it stops with me*.

I made a thing. Folks have been asking me for a while to make merch out of some of their favorite quotes from my work. This one is from this short essay: tinyurl.com/dd3rs4ew

And you can buy the mug here: tinyurl.com/2vj359ca

There are some shirts & hoodies too. Lemme know if you want those links.

Despite what Toby (the cat) wants you to think, there is actually more to this mission than just one word.

You don't have to read the whole thing, you can just lie there like a lump, which in itself fulfills the mission.

But if you want to, you can read the full mission here: tinyurl.com/3kf69fdf

Full mission is up on the book of faces. Starting tomorrow, I'll have these up on Medium as well, so you don't ever have to go back to the Zuck place again to grab them.

I really like how it doesn't suppress external links! I'm liking this as a place to connect and share updates & links to longer form. I think this is going to work really well!

Thanks! I have looked at it in the past. I'll probably use Medium or Patreon (which is owned by artists, not tech bros). I got frustrated at the way Substack forced me to subscribe to a bunch of things before I could even begin and then I was suddenly INUNDATED by emails. But I might look again.

I will be setting up a blog very soon, to hold the long-form versions of my posts. For now, with apologies, you'll have to click through to Facebook to read the full thing.

This isn't actually the whole thing. I don't know why. I edited it down to meet the character limit, but it truncated it further anyway.

Hm. I don't see how to read the alt text in a readable format. It doesn't seem to show anything but the top portion of it.

Your mission today, should you choose to accept it, is to get back up.

We are in hard times and barreling toward harder times. It's gonna be a rough ride.

Today, if you are willing, we are going to practice strength and resilience in the face of insurmountable odds.

(I know, dear ones, I know. Bear with me for a moment.)

You know that scene in every action film, at the climax where everything is riding on one last fight, the main character is down for the count, and you know it's about all over, but then they find that last ounce of strength and they stand up and they win the fight?

That's the one.

It's cheesy, I know. It's not realistic, I know. But what is real is that you only lose the battle when you don't get up again. And that day may come, but maybe not today.

Just for today, I want you to take a moment and check in with yourself and discover whether there is even one last ounce of strength left. One little bit.

If there's not, then I want you to practice saying to yourself: Well, I can't get up right now, but maybe I will later. I will stay here until I can.

If there is, then I want you to practice saying to yourself: Okay, I have one ounce of strength left. I'm going to make it count.

Just for today, loves.

Tomorrow you can collapse again, if that is what you must do. And on any day - ANY day - you must turn to yourself and do what is right for you, not what anyone is telling you to do, not even me.

But today, if you choose to accept this mission, I want you to get up.

I want you to do one thing. Brush your teeth. Comb your hair. Plan the next step in whatever it is that you're planning. Check on a neighbor. Get some breakfast and a coffee. Schedule a family meeting. Figure out where you need to go to resolve a problem. Tune in to a community that is doing work you want to be a part of. Read an article about how to birth a new world out of the wreckage of this old one.

Go, prepare the soil of your garden for next season.

Now, don't mistake me…
