I believe this set of conventions is referred to as a rouge-like? Never really tried something like this myself as I feel like leaving your game design up to random chance doesn't *seem* like a good idea? Will have to play the full game more to be able to fully evaluate this tbf

tried haste and it's impressive how much I fw the base gameplay but am incredibly put off by the systems it's contextualised within (they made it all semi-randomised with nonsensical choices to tweak the game in a shop that pops up inbetween teeny levels and if you die you have to start it all over)

The results screen, I died 74 times (yes it's one of those types of games) and the timer didn't work for whatever reason but it probably took me around 20-30 minutes

tbf if you look far enough back you realise that game freak had pretty much always been half-assing their visuals since the GBA games, just that it got more apparent as standards increased and they were still making the games like a small indie team doing stuff for the original gameboy

it *did* look like shit
in the first mainline game in the most profitable series on earth on a home* console, for £60

(some of this is probably down to a lot of switch games looking bad because of texture size limitations along with how underpowered the console itself was)

ooh I see! My thinkpad from the era has something similar where it has a small segment display and cd controls at the front to use it as a CD player while the laptop is closed/turned off, pretty neat!

(I'm also annoyingly misplaced all my USB sticks since I'm moving soon so I can't just boot into a linux live environment to check the specs more thoroughly

unsure, I opened it to check stuff but all I found was that is had 16gb of ram (4x4gb sticks which is a bit odd), seems relatively new? but not even an intel sticker on the side and since I don't have any spare thermal paste I couldn't check the CPU
