Welcome back but Truss is staying on your side of the Channel. Thanks.
11.07.2025 10:04 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0You saw statements on MEPs not showing up because of Gaza? Saw nothing here.
11.07.2025 07:43 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0It seems all FdL did not show up. Same thing for La France Insoumise, French Greens ...
So MEPs really did not want to risk anything if they would have voted (even for abstaining). E.g. French Left MEPs really not happy with VDL but voting with the National Rally was a no go.
167 votes missing to arrive at 720. Definitely over 150 people did not show up.
10.07.2025 13:54 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Big delegations -- including it seems Meloni's party -- did not vote.
So yes, not a victory for Von der Leyen ...
Von der Leyen survives the motion of confidence.
But only 553 European lawmakers actually voted. And for the 167 missing, I believe there is a lot of French left-leaning MEPs + overall The Left.
Maybe this explains why so few abstained? They were not bothered to vote?

Really liked this episode (with a slight delay) of @evikiorri.bsky.social on the recent Greek scandal over EU funds corruption.

Exhibit B - The same media outlet is still posting promotional content to its running EU-funded projects.
So the Editor-in-Chief can yell whatever he wants. On the money side, management is still keen to secure funding and keep good relationships with its former partners.
Exhibit A - the editor of Euractiv is obsessed with EU media funding (without doing a proper reporting on it but whatever)

This is a classic Orbán move. See this poster from last year only weeks before Hungary took over the rotating EU Council presidency.
Commissioners and MEPs have diplomatic immunity. And several MEPs will be in Budapest this weekend for pride.
Von der Leyen (at last) is condemning the Pride ban in Hungary. Especially the fines, which are not complying with EU law.
However, if she is 'an ally', it seems she will not go herself to Budapest this weekend.

Ca match même pas beaucoup la carte électorale.

I wrote a quick feature for Reset! on why we should still keep an eye on Hungary this weekend for pride ... but also after this summer for its Foreign Agent law.

Mais il y'a pas la promesse de Ciotti de modifier les lois sur la transparence pour virer la décision exécutoire pour les politiques condamnés en première instance de mauvaise utilisation de l'argent public ?

@manonboquen.bsky.social announced on Médiapart a future ECI on Gaza on a review of the EU-Israel association agreement.
Could come as of this weekend as radical left groups are meeting to confirm a new alliance

Was just checking the English conservative pravda.
Still confused how it is somehow stuck in 1812.
Update, we have a video (from @vert.eco) on the sculpture being 'borrowed'.

Greenpeace 'borrowed' from a museum a wax figure of Emmanuel Macron.
The sculpture was featured in a protest against imports of Russian gas.
