There’s also the excellent Node.js-based boardgame.io. Allows you to define rules and moves, and run a natural-selection cycle to fine-tune different AI opponents’ weights/styles.

I used it to determine whether a given rule or move would unbalance a game, and fiddle with card costs etc.

Yup, I now realize that Mausritter was a poor example. I was thinking more in terms of “you’re not a hero out to kill everyone foreign to you. There are always non-violent conflict resolution options (if you’re not lazy)”, but yes, killing and looting are built into the fabric and world of the game.

Increasingly convinced the main damage cell phones have done to creativity isn't decreased attention spans or what not but the elimination of productive boredom. Inspiration comes from the mind filling the void inside. Hard to make art when you're constantly silencing the silence with "content."
