Personal news: After 162 consecutive months, dating back to September 2012, I am discontinuing the PHLNYPR.
No longer sparks joy. Has been true for a while. I feel unburdened.
Someone pointed out to me that the compressed schedule may make it easier for MLB to allow its players to participate

Huge Olympics stakes for the WBC over the next 3 weeks.
Itβs also crazy the Olympic baseball tourney will only have 6 teams, with half of them winning medals, when other team sports have much larger fields.
That is the same as 2021, though baseball had 8 teams from 1984-2008.
Very delayed response, but thanks for these! And for checking out the show

Finally, while I have your attention: If youβd like to support my work, Iβd appreciate if you sign up for my mailing list so I can be a little less dependent on all these platforms.
I only use it 2-3x a year to share my favorite projects. Hope to have more cool stuff soon: mitchgoldich.substack.com
Our final episode will be what weβll remember from every sport. You should check it out so youβre subscribed before LA28.
Iβm biased, but I think we do a great job balancing the big headlines, random silliness and niche sports that all make the Olympics special: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/s...
I also heard from tons of people about my daily watch guides, and it was very cool to know I was helping people enjoy the Olympics more.
And a special thanks to my podcast listeners. I loved hearing from the people who truly followed along every day with me and @dangartland.bsky.social.
People of Bluesky: I want to give a sincere thank you to everyone who made the 2026 Olympics so much fun β€οΈπ₯
The sports community on this site has grown a ton in the past 6 months or so, and I found so much good stuff over here every day π§΅

Sudden death OT for the Olympic gold. Huge stakes for the teams, and whoever scores the goal is about to become an all-time legend.
22.02.2026 15:43 β π 33 π 2 π¬ 1 π 1The Olympics do a very good job of starting a game when they say itβs gonna start, and some of the pro sports leagues could learn a lesson there.

Sweden beats Switzerland to win womenβs curling gold, and hereβs your final schedule update:

USA-Canada for menβs hockey gold is the only thing left on the board π
Thanks! We have discussed it. Canβt commit yet, but weβll see.

I have been locked in on sports schedules for three weeks, but just had a total jump scare when I got a push alert that a Phillies-Blue Jays spring training game has started.
I was completely unprepared for that one.
β οΈ Hopefully our final weather update of the 2026 Olympics, but the womenβs freeski halfpipe final has been moved to 4:40 a.m. ET Sunday.
Big event, adds some juice for the final day if youβre up at 4:40, but *probably* means fewer people will see it.
And the U.S. womenβs curling run came to an end with a loss to Canada in the bronze game.
That team still has never medaled at the Olympics. This was the second trip to the semifinals, but second fourth-place finish.
Of course, the mixed doubles won silver earlier these Games.
