im actually surprised to learn that the only publishing house Warner owns is DC

yeah, i just recently got exhausted by the idea of people still slogging thru his solo catalog and having opinions on it, which I got suckered into ages ago, and the overwhelming interest in all the mediocre stuff this (often brilliant!) guy does.

at this point i'd rather own that book than a lou reed lyric book

but i also love their lyrics kind of how i love neil young, simple images that get colored by the way theyre performed...

ha, yeah, the lyrics would seem insanely stupid that way, but when he sings them they are (to me) powerful and not corny. i was watching some of their top of the pops performances, they perform that stuff with such icy focus but it's all 'love, have you heard of it? it's cool...but not always!'

does anyone else ever think of Bernard Sumner as simultaneously the oddest AND most hyper normal band frontman possible?

i do wonder what a company like Netflix, which is hostile to anything that isnt digital, will make of a weekly print periodical company.

NYTimes story on netflix acquiring Warner makes no mention of DC publishing or its characters (not that it should). It is kinda incredible how Wednesday comics have endured all these insane mergers, probably get by from no execs even being aware they are happening.

Just spent two hours reading Krazy Kat, The Museum of The History of Ideas About The Fall by Goda Trakumaite, working out my fascia, and listening to Herbie Nichols Complete Blue Note recordings. A good two hours spent.

it’s weird because in class i just taught, Goda Trakumaite comic Im working with talks about β€˜magic’, so I played clip of Alan Moore speaking on magic, where he mentions Lucy’s apartment as a source of satanic energy. Lucy, still relevant in academia AND the streets!

Guys on 13th and Broadway who sell old comics on the street loudly debating whether Lucy & Ricky Ricardo’s address exists in reality.

ive read this, I love ELW, but it still doesn't give (to me) a clear explanation of enclosure, just gets at the fact of it and some of the forces behind it...still feels inexplicable to me.

weirdly, it was a perfect setting for me when reading it as a kid, ha.

Even if you don't have kids, as long as you're not totally dead inside, this shit makes your blood boil. Imagine how both the child and the parent must feel.

There's no hope for this country unless the people responsible for all this abuse and torture are punished as a warning to future fascists.

The New York Comics & Picture-Story Symposium was started by cartoonist Ben Katchor, who in the past couple years or so has gotten help planning & running it from Bill Kartalopoulos, Lilli CarrΓ©, & Austin English @dominocomics.bsky.social. It's been almost 100% online since the pandemic began...

Just added to the Domino Shop, it's The Complete C Comics v. 1. Without a doubt, one of the most important comic book releases of 2025. We are extremely thankful to Bill Kartalopoulos for pushing this project ahead and writing an extremely valuable essay.

Don Markstein's Toonopedia: Conchy Hypertext encyclopedia of comics and animation

Reading @dominocomics.bsky.social thread on newspaper comic strips from the 70s, I was struggling to remember one in particular, but hunted around & got it: Conchy!
I think it was written up in @comicsjournal.bsky.social at some point.
