Just a few more days until the official release date. I hope everyone who's been so kind as to pre-order the book will have their copies very soon.

self published hand made comics, imo, provide the most powerful expression of this

something about the combination of text and imagery suggests more of a sustainable lifeline than, say, a single image hanging in your room or a pile of printed text

when i sell comics, i always think of them that way β€˜here’s something you can use, if, at this moment, you don’t have much else’

part of my obsession w/ comics probably has to do with my association of them with isolated people: if you are very cut off from people, having a pamphlet that has words and pictures, whether good or bad, provides something to reflect on (and build on in your mind) to a possibly limitless degree.

great minds, etc.

at least we all agree he's one of the greatest comic book writers of all time, pretty much every fans favorite.

sorta, like, 'hey, the person who actually created this character is dead, i control this magazine, I'm gonna keep pushing this narrative that I created this popular iconic character, why not? who's gonna stop me??'

30.07.2025 23:13 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

i mean...it's his magazine, so, he's going for it

β€˜for our mags next issue, make a drawing for the cover an image of me hanging out with the character I definitely created and that everyone believes i created’

no but issues are not so hard to find

Marvel couldn't publish the Alex Ross Fantastic Four book or this new John Byrne X-Men book (both from Abrams)...but mainstream comic publishing is sort of like running a bodega. It'd be nice to invest in a salad bar, but the weekly budget needs to go into cigarettes and beer inventory

the best hollywood screenplays from that time are the ones with silence in them so these once silent actors could do what they considered acting and the real directors could flex their now under used expressionist muscles, whereas Wilder is basically opposed to silence.

I love Curtiz, I think Mildred Pierce is incredible, and Casablanca is the kind of ultimate iconic Hollywood film Wilder should have made, but couldn't because he can't tap into raw emotion (ditto It's A Wonderful Life). Gonna pretend you're not saying anything Wilder did can hold a candle to Shane.

he’s a good writer, sure, he’s the aaron sorkin of classic hollywood

who would you say is less talented (besides robert aldrich)?

26.07.2025 04:40 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I think all old Hollywood directors are talented with the sole exception of Billy Wilder.

yeah, but I've always thought of him more as an Art Director (which comics needs more of as well) than an editor. This is essentially what Stan Lee was...
