That was a long speech, but short on real solutions to affordability, including on health care costs. President Trump's #SOTU showed a stark contrast between public promises to lower health costs and his actual policies of deliberate decisions to double premiums. #SOTU2026

Much to comment about the ending of the @SOTU honoring American history, but it makes me wistful, since the current Administration seems to be attacking what has made this country successful and special: our higher education and research system, our welcoming of immigrants, our common cause, etc.

On the big bad budget betrayal, it cut Medicaid by over $900 billion dollars--harming health care costs, coverage, care, and our communities. Over 15 million more are estimated to lose coverage. Premiums have doubled just this January as a deliberate decision of the current Congress and President.

We know it's challenging to find access to affordable health care now that the enhanced tax credits have expired, and much higher premiums are now in effect for 2026 due to Congress' failure to act to protect affordable health coverage for millions of Americans.
