Autism Europe Congress: I'll be presenting at 12:45 on Friday the 12th as part of "Creating safe and autism friendly environments 2".

I'm really excited to hear about other people's work and to meet new people!

graphic with a light purple background featuring three dark purple circular icons paired with quotes from autistic students about their experiences in school.

Top section: A person icon walking through a door is shown. Beside it, a quote from Sophie reads:
"It just feels unnatural being here (laughs). As soon as I get here, I want to leave... everything in school is kind of a given, and it feels... kind of humiliating when itโ€™s not."

Middle section: An icon of a block of classroom chairs. Next to it, Emmaโ€™s quote reads:
"One big thing is if they gave us... the option of where to sit... the difference between me not being able to go to a lesson ever."

Bottom section: A symbol of a head with arrows pointing down toward it. Beside it, Johnnyโ€™s quote reads:
"Itโ€™d make me not want to work, and it makes me not want to think. And it... hurts my brain."

At the bottom right corner, the text says: "Price & Romualdez (2025)".

We know so little about the emotional experiences of #autistic and #ADHD young people who struggle to attend or are excluded from school even though this group is at much higher risk of mental health difficulties and poor life chances. We want to change this.

I'm thrilled to have been nominated for Champion for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion in the Cardiff Student's Union Enriching Student Lives Awards.

I try to provide a safe and inclusive learning environment, so my students nominating me feels particularly meaningful.

Really excited to have an oral presentation at the 14th Autism-Europe Congress 2025 #AECongress25! @autismeurope.bsky.social

I'll be talking about our research exploring autistic young peoples' experiences using sensory rooms

Looking forward to meeting new people and learning about new research!

Thus, we consider whether entrainment may be a tool to support positive social outcomes, such that those who are dissimilar in EQ may "ground" their interaction with low-level movement entrainment. ๐Ÿงต4/4

There are two scatterplots. The scatterplot to the left shows that, with greater partner differences in EQ scores, the conversational partners demonstrate greater hand movement similarity. The scatterplot to the right shows that, with greater partner differences in EQ scores, the conversational partners demonstrate greater head movement similarity.

We found that, for both head and hand movements, greater differences in EQ scores were associated with greater entrainment. However, There was no significant relationship betweenย f0ย entrainment and EQ score differences. ๐Ÿงต3/4

Two people sit opposite one another, one on the left (Speaker A), one on the right (Speaker B).
Below them are two graphs.
The left graph depicts dynamic time warping of the speakers' head and hand movements.
The right graph depicts the calculation of the difference in maximum fundamental frequency between the two speakers.

We used dynamic time warping to measure entrainment of head motion between speakers, and hand motion between speakers, and we calculated maximum f0 difference between interlocutors in question-response sequences. We further measured partner differences in Empathy Quotient (EQ) scores. ๐Ÿงต2/4

Dyadic differences in empathy scores are associated with kinematic similarity during conversational questionโ€“answer pairs During conversation, speakers coordinate and synergize their behaviors at multiple levels, and in different ways. How taking part in research has benefited me.
As well as being an Autistic autism researcher I take part in other peopleโ€™s research studies.
This is partly altruistic as I want to reduce inequalities and improve things for future generations, but I also gain a great deal from it personally.
