It's not an exaggeration to say that high car usage and poor buses are an explicit policy choice. This is why the promises of a transport mecca post Galway ring road from agencies and parties with decades of neglecting public transport is such obvious BS.

This is an INSANE decision by the E.U.
โBy signing up to mutual recognition of vehicle standards with the U.S., the E.U. has waved the white flag on road safety. This is not a technical detail โ it is a political choice that puts trade convenience ahead of saving lives.โ
This will kill people.

Fair play to MTU โ 96 covered bike spaces, just like that. Thatโs how you do it. Four of these at the Pรกirc Uรญ Chaoimh and you'd hardly notice in the landscape. More of this, please.

This is the reality of Vision Zero. It requires more than urging. It requires investment and the courage to confront the sources of danger on our roads. Not to outsource them.
Each month a family in Galway (population 300 000) gets that dreaded knock.
These are not accidents; these are results.
IDA targets Oranmore firing range for silicon factories.
There needs to be investment in a new railway station to support this or get locked into further car dependency, if this plan is serious

Would be nice to get some creative thinking around Galway's traffic congestion problem.
Affordable housing so people can live in the city.
Decent bus schedules from the more rural areas that have now become the commuter belt into Galway.
Or, absolutely wild suggestion, a commuter train?
Time to abandon Galway Ring Road and seriously invest in decent public transport for the county and the city.

16.05.2025 20:23 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 3 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Pedestrianisation is not "wrong", but the value of the term "car free" is that it admits the possibility of some demotorised zones where both walking and cycling are allowed.
It doesn't have to be absolute, and could be decided case by case.
Unfortunately the Council is far too heavy-handed.
