I've encountered this and had some heated conversations with said Gollums. Often it's sheer protectionist nonsense, but it can reflect deeper distortions created by employers fixated on PI grant funding and high impact papers. People are then forced to leverage in order to survive.

I had a hunch it would involve Anthony Herrel. Some people just have all the fun. Cool paper.

Rabbits and hares (leporid lagomorphs) have uniquely fenestrated skulls, but why? Using finite element analysis, a new study found that fenestrations don’t impact biting efficiency but may lighten the skull for agility.

Research has been evenings and weekends for a while, tempting to keep the hobby going...... Or perhaps I should go cold turkey 🦃. Any advice welcome!

I loved my time (25+ yrs) as an academic and scientist. My colleagues as well as students were all amazing.

Next week I will join the ranks of recovering UK academics on BlueSky, and start work for a non-departmental public body instead. Very much looking forward to the new challenges and ways of working. 🙈🙉🙊 🧪🧪
