My department's even hosting a cookie competition this Friday, which may force me to return to campus during sabbatical. Sincerely, 48-year-old man who just walked 3 miles on the treadmill.

The holidays are just a ruse by BIG SUGAR to make me gain weight. November and December are just holiday party after holiday party loaded with baked-good boobytraps.

In other words, Trump voters in Michigan are significantly more likely to be leveled by his policies. And because Dems no longer control ANYTHING, nobody's going to be able to save them from themselves. Their services will be cut to fund tax cuts for the richest Americans. FAFO.

2) In those counties least reliant on transfers β€” accounting for 15% or less of total income β€” Vice President Harris won 56% of the vote, according to EIG.

Michigan Trump voters rely on spending Musk's DOGE might cut Metro Detroit counties were among the state's least reliant on government aid.

This is fascinating. Two key points stuck out to me:
1) In the counties most reliant on transfer payments (Social Security, Medicare) β€” where they account for more than 25% of all income β€” Trump won 63% of the vote.

Maybe I'm alone in this but anyone else irked by Betty Gilpin replacing Cole Escola in "Oh, Mary." It takes away from the play's distinctly queer appeal. I don't get it.

Never externalize injustice so much that you can no longer recognize suffering YOU have inflicted.

They're stuck on being stuck, which is the saddest form of commitment. The hardest work you'll ever do is objectively observe your own flaws and plant flowers in your foundation's cracks. There's no greater agency a person can enjoy.

But that vein of critical inquiry doesn't absolve you from your own sins. Don't trust people who use a term like "reflexivity" if they NEVER self-implicate. Over the last quarter-century, I've witnessed their damage, injury that is always somebody else's fault.

But some of the loudest calls for it come from people who DON'T PRACTICE WHAT THEY PREACH. They've become so habituated into EXTERNALIZING injustice that they suck at turning inward. Yes, systemic injustice is REAL and needs to be interrogated and corrected.

Big pet peeve: critical/cultural scholars who misuse the term "self-reflexivity." So many of 'em think it only applies to OTHER PEOPLE, like "self-reflexivity" is something they can exclusively impose on SOMEBODY ELSE. I don't doubt the importance of self-reflexivity.

Crickets. Oy. Invite-only launches read like manufactured lines outside a nightclub. You walk into the bar and there are more people waiting to get in than people partying inside.

I don't understand why new social media apps limit participation to this extent. I'm sure it's a matter of infrastructure. The problem is that you can't get off the ground when there's so little content with which to engage.
