First pie chart is how aspiring authors think novel writing works, with about 1/4 of the pie for inspiration, more than 3/4 for writing the first draft, and a small portion being editing. The second pie chart shows how writing a novel actually works, with a sliver for inspiration, a sliver for writing the first draft, less than 3/4 for editing and more than 1/3 for wishing you’d never started the damn thing.

Although the feeling of wishing you’d never started the damn thing eventually gives in to excitement if you keep at it. The trick is getting over that hump!
