The left is not "missing out" on AI. It's winning the argument. Americans worry about AI and dislike tech CEOs. They're mobilizing against data centers. They support regulation, even refusal.
Calls for the left to embrace AI are an effort to change the terms of the debate in Silicon Valley's favor.
I'm a coder & I actually quite enjoy programming! Figuring out the best way to accomplish the goal & solve novel puzzles is fun! I don't want to become a glorified code reviewer

Gods all above I need this GenAI bubble to pop ASAP.
So people can stop talking about this tech as if it's inevitable or something.
They'll run out of money and the lack of ROI will PUT THEM IN THEIR GRAVES and we can go back to something closer to normal. π
What are you making?

I really enjoy Seanan McGuire's October Daye & Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson series if you have any like that to recommend.
(Also Kat Richardson's Greywalker series, though it's complete now.)
I read 3 of them but couldn't get into it. Does it get better?

I'm gonna repeat my comment.
Talking about nonexistent "super intelligent" machines is like talking about the Cookie Monster rather than corporations creating real things causing harm. A non existent machine god bringing apocalypse or utopia is a framing that is harmful. Period.
I canβt believe you lefty Luddites hate tech so much that you embrace mRNA vaccines, heat pumps, electric bikes, hybrid work, renewable power (and awesome advancements in storage), space telescopes, and hot/cold running water but reject the planet destroying plagiarism enrich the worst people bots!

During secondary school, my mother always tore my school papers apart and it made me hate writing.
But it's the clearest expression of laid out thinking, and I wouldn't even consider outsourcing that to a machine.
LMAO someone suggested using an LLM to analyze quantitative data because they're "logical"
funniest fucking shit
Itβs so hard to have a reasonable conversation about AI, because people refuse to see the massive upsides of job elimination, higher electrical bills, hard drive shortages, poisoning black people in Memphis, and an economy where a handful of pedos with bad hair control your life

Hey Benjamin, you're getting some suff wrong here, starting with framing me and my colleagues as "AI skeptics". It's true that we call BS on claims of AI, AGI, LLMs understanding etc. But "AI skeptic" is a term that resides within the AI booster's frame of view, not ours.

Suggestions for how to do that here, btw:

"AI is built on the collective knowledge of humankind."
No. Nononononono. It is not built on _knowledge_, it it built on _data_. And not everyone's experiences are available as data, many communities are excluded.
